HOUSE vs. TRANCE = Can you help me?

Okay, this may seem like a VERY STUPID QUESTION... But can someone clarify this for me?
What is the difference between HOUSE and TRANCE?
I have always been under the impression that HOUSE was a constant hard dancing beat...
and
TRANCE is a slow TRANSition between soft slow periods cyclical with fast hard beats (which apparently are manipulated by DJs as far as how long each segment is...)
Do I understand correctly?
My next question is, how do I know if a DJ is a HOUSE DJ or TRANCE DJ? The reason why, is because I ABSOLUTELY LOVE TIESTO, PVD, ATB, and AVB... which I assume are TRANCE DJs, and to be honest, I went to a party last night that was a CONSTANT BANGING HARD HOUSE music type party... The place was dead... don't think anyone was enjoying themselves...
Not saying HOUSE is bad, music is obvious a preferential thing... But, is there any other way of knowing what type of music a DJ plays besides having to know their history/reputation? |

| House and trance is close but you have so many different genres of edm when it come to house and trance avb, tiesto, atb there all trance but like atb he more like prog trance which sound like house it all the same transition and he still bangs it out same with tiesto and armin... What club did u go to that was playing hardhouse and it was dead if u where in the city u should have came to love club was packed great djs great music great people and the atmosphere was poppin |

| pvd says he's not a trance dj and tiesto plays a lot of house. don't block yourself into saying you only really like trance because most djs don't play one type of music consistently because that's boring. |

hmm... Not blocking myself, hell, don't even know what it is called... LOL, how can I block myself... I know which DJs I like, if that is what you mean... But, as far as "type." Well, that is what I am trying to understand from this thread...
I recently went to TIESTO@WH and what TIESTO played at WH vs.. a party I went to last night were TOTALLY different... Tiesto, had moments of calm slow music, while last night was a CONSTANT HARD HIT.
For example, I am considering Tenaglia and Masiello for 8/2...
which do you think I would like? based on my thoughts of music?
would love to hear your opinions... thanks btw, for your input on my thread... |

umm... hate to say it.. But Love was where I was at...
Don't get me wrong... people seemed superfriendly, as I generally find at all these parties... everyone is always SMILING :)
Love was packed? umm... were we at the same club?
I was there from 11pm to 1:30am... and it actually got slower...
maybe it crowded up after I left... But... I can't see how this place got PACKED...
I went because of all the plugs on here... But, I found the music too hard..., once again.. BEFORE ANYONE TAKES OFFENSE to it... this is just my opinion... you can hear a CLEAR difference between what I heard last night, and the "trance" music which I generally listen to.
Would you consider the music played last night @Love Trance? I would love to hear your answer to that one... cause if you do, then I ABSOLUTELY have NO IDEA what trance music is... |

excuse me i meant lock. as for shows i listen to recent sets of djs before i go because i want to make sure i know what i'm getting myself into. i'm not a huge fan of tenaglia or masiello but go and dl a set. the dl thread is your friend :D
if you are not exactly clear what you really like i would actually suggest listening to everything. i've gone to hear dnb, house, trance, techno and breaks djs. can't say i always had the greatest time but at least i figured out what i liked and did not like. also try looking at tl, you'll most likely notice a pattern of what type of tracks you like and find djs who play stuff you generally like. |

You're welcome.
Generally speaking, you can "hear" the difference in beats per minute, or the speed of the song between the genres of house and trance.
In my opinion, house tracks tends to take on less beats per minute, and tend to be slower, but still maintain it's electronic feel and groove.
If you take a trance track, you will (in my opinion) notice that the tracks take on more speed, more beats per minute; and of course, keeping its electronic feel and groove.
JUST as an add-on to this, house tracks are a great way to build into a set; wherein calm, collective, yet energy-building house tracks, can lead into more upbeat trance traceks, meaning something more energetic, more melodic, more uplifting to the mind. - You should always expect to hear this build-up.
Take the time to listen to all the countless EDM tracks out there, to understand everything. It's all in the ears and mind.
Armin van Buuren's ASOT, Above & Beyond's TATW, shows are a great way to stay updated with new tracks, and also a way to feel his track selection/DJ mix, from slow, energy-building tracks to full-blown mind-blowing, body-jumping, hands-in-the-air, "trance in your pants -AvB" kinda feel, I'm sure you know.
Another great reference point for you is www.di.fm. They are an internet radio streaming site, they stream TONS of international radio shows, and also hosts channels for all the popular genres of EDM.
Hope this helps. |
