| My mom goes to the movies alone all the time. She loves movies but she hates having to invite a friend because they always want to make a huge night of it and get drinks after or dinner and bla bla bla and my mom just wants to get her candy and see the movie and then go home lol She probably goes alone at least twice a month. |

Eating alone is awesome because you can enjoy your food without her talking about things like hair and the dog she had when she was 5 that make you want to jam a butter knife in your own eye. If its with guy friends its not bad, we just grunt like cavemen and eat our food before the big fake show of who pays the bill comes up.
In Korea eating alone was awesome. They would stare and then i would start coughing uncontrollably. Koreans think all white people have aids and are germ ridden. I even managed to make a little girl cry once...so great. |

In this case, they are right! |

Personally, I couldn't care less if I eat alone or with other people. It's nice to have a conversation while dining, but then again not having that communal experience of eating with other people doesn't take away from any meal I'm having.
Like I said before, this thought never crossed my mind until this thread. |

I think the same issue also applies when you got the movies alone.
I've only gone to the movies alone 2 times (Matrix & Dark Knight), but I didn't think much of it at the time. Still both times I got these weird looks when I said "one ticket please". |
And going to concerts. A friend of mine once gave me a ticket to a concert simply because he felt it was weird to go all by himself. And it felt awkward too when I went to see Ferry Corsten alone... but I didn't really mind it that much.
I fail at watching films alone, by the way. Even when I go by myself, I either find a friend or make random friends once I'm on the cinema :p |

wtf are you on about? How is a persons involvement in an article any indication of their level of embarrassment of eating alone? I often indulge myself in some sort of reading material when eating, much more entertaining than observing your food for 20 minutes. Also, what's wrong w/ sending an sms while eating?
How you found a parallel between all of the above and embarrassment is beyond me. |
'projection' :p |

no, i mean her accusations of embarassment are likely her projections onto others
ie she is self-conscious about usign her cell phone while eating alone so she assumes everyone who does so is embarassed |

No, I gotcha. What I meant was, rather than accuse her of 'projection' I decided to seek her opinion on the issue, if you will.
BTW, "projection" is what this whole thread is about. If you care why a person sits alone, you will think other will care too :). |

| i'm pretty comfortable doing stuff alone. no use restricting yourself from doing something because someone isn't around to do it with you...if i waited to go to clubs with friends i would never have entered a club. i went alone and made friends. if i'm hungry i'm going to eat whether i have someone to eat with or not... |
