Because there is "side to side" and "rolling up and down" (like waves).
Personally, i'm not even shaken, buildings are designed for this, my 22nd floor was swaying pretty nice though.

| Oh my! I don't normally get scared but this one had me trembling like crazy! I was in Downey in an old 2 story building and boy... it almost felt like the building was skipping away! Kinda like when a washing machine starts bouncing! I left work and came home! :nervous: *looks around the house* Just a few things fell from shelves and my cat had a WTF look. |

I was in the 4th Floor of the OC Register when the quake hit. We're on rollers, so this lasted forever. We're all ok, but one lady started screaming histeracly. I ducked under my desk cuz debris started falling off the ceiling.
Mom says she felt two aftershocks, I haven't felt any.
