Kind of Blue is one of those rare albums where, in my experience, virtually no one dislikes it.

I don't know jack about jazz, but I really like it so I'm loving this thread.

I really love Sinnerman by Nina Simone, does anyone know anything similar to that? I know its not really jazz, I'm not even really sure what it is, maybe more rock? But I've been looking for some similar stuff for ages...

Medeski, Martin, & Wood [MMW] "Combustication" and "the Dropper" - "Combustication" is more the new/fusion jazz, creepy as hell, very electronic influenced but still straight jazz. "the Dropper" is a straight up jazz trio (bass, percs, and keys) album, very acoustic, but their cover of "Partido Alto" is my favorite tune of theirs.

The Dropper is a good album.

One of the best gateway CDs introducing me to the world of jazz was "Lester Young With The Oscar Peterson Trio". It's one of the CDs that kicked off my love for jazz.

My fusion jazz thread flopped a while back. Just so happens i saw this one amongst the old threads. Any one else appreciate fusion around here?
Been listening to Flood and Headhunters by Herbie Hansome lately. Was listening to Aghartha and Pangaea by Miles as well. I like some prog or fusion Jazz. Although i've had trouble finding more albums that fit along the lines of the albums just mentioned. I really need to check out more Mahavishnu Orchestra. Suggestions?

i always like the funk-jazz from the mid-late '70s -- early-'80s because a lot of the ambient sounds used.

Bob James - Nautilus

Roy Ayers - Everybody Loves The Sunshine

Roy Ayers - We Live In Brooklyn

Kool & The Gang - Summer Madness

miles davis, who generally disliked hip hop, embraced it toward the end of his life:

Miles Davis ft. Easy Moe Bee - The Doo Bop Song

gangstarr had a lot to do with it, especially instrumental hip hop-jazz hybrids like DJ Premier & Branford Marsalis' project 'Buckshot LeFonque:'

Buckshot LeFonque - Breakfast at Dennys
