Q5echo,

The problem with Opus is that he is paranoid. I mean in these elections w.e decision Mccain takes the far left and its followers pin point to Rove. I mean while Rove is writting articles in WSJ, Newsweek and giving interviews at Fox the far left has this conspiracy theory, like always, that Rove is waging a campaign against them  then the far left ask themselves why they lose elections

well, IMO theres a fine line between being a pure partisan and being paranoid. i should know.

really you got to hand it Rove regardless of where anyone stands politically. he's upped the game thats for damn sure. you either roll with it or get out of the way.

Hi Latin, I'm ready to have that debate with you on your terms of no profanity. Just let me know when you'd like to begin.

In regards to Rove's influence on the McCain campaign:

quote:
But other big-name Bushies are lining up to boost McCain, too.

Ken Mehlman, who ran Bush’s 2004 campaign, is now serving as an unpaid, outside adviser to the Arizona Republican. Karl Rove, the president’s top political hand since his Texas days, recently gave money to McCain and soon after had a private conversation with the senator. A top McCain adviser said both Mehlman and Rove are now informally advising the campaign. Rove refused to detail his conversation with McCain.

and

quote:
“Generally speaking, Rove’s advice is action-oriented and useful,” said another senior consultant to the McCain camp. “It’s always well received.” This McCain adviser noted that Rove talks periodically to Black and a few other top campaign aides on several key matters. “It can be policy ideas, messaging ideas, fundraising prospects, or people who need calls from someone in the campaign.” Rove is “part of the information network that the campaign has,” this adviser said, adding that Rove talks fairly regularly to such key people as Wayne Berman, a major fundraiser for McCain; Nicolle Wallace, a communications adviser; and Steve Schmidt, a senior aide.

and

quote:
In private, Rove speaks regularly with the McCain campaign, where his former protégé Steve Schmidt is now the manager. He’s also dialed in at the Republican National Committee, run by Mike Duncan, another former aide. And he still lunches two or three times a month with President Bush.

So it's not that difficult to see his fingerprints on some of McCain's political maneuvers, for better or for worse.

You have no idea of what the political spectrum is made up of.

The rest of the world has a lot stronger left wing initiatives then almost anything comming out of the US. Even people called conservatives in other countries would struggle to make it to the centre of US politics.

The conservative right, your self included, has got to start realizing that thought, society, humanity, and economics have progressed astoundingly since 1950 and 1950 isn't comming back.

Your time might be better spent writing hate mail to the NFL for that nipple that Ms. Jackson used to turn your kid to crack while you watch violence without reprocusions on TV and fantacize about inflicting violence with reprocussions on others half a world away through proxy agents and mercenaries.

Debate involves reason, listening to others, preparing a set of points, and haveing a sound grasp of the things being debated.

You don't do any of these things therefore you can not debate.

Your support of "unpopular candidates" has nothing to do with it. First off the Republican party can hardly be called "unpopular", they have strong support across the whole of the US.

The reason people get mad at you is because you are lazy, irational, inarticulate and ignorant.

Take a lesson from some of the more rational right leaning people on this board and around the world, shut off the TV, stop smoking pot, drink less and read more.

The only thing that would come out of trying is the energy you put into trying and their enjoyment of watching you kill yourself doing it.

I get a kick out of it. I'm putting off getting up and going to work, why not cut strips into someone who I've never met?

Finnally got through all the LL crap and can address what this thread was supposed to be about.

I completely understand how worn down politics in the form of boards, 24 hour news, and the state of comunities can get. I don't think there is an easy answer.

I agree that taking a break is a good idea as many people have pointed out. I think for the most part that's happened for a lot of people. August is almost a world wide slow month.

What gets me is that I can see the crazyness that's building up for the fall and I'm pretty certain it's going to be an intense couple of months.

As soon as the storm hits it's not going to let up until the end of Novmember. (that damn hurricane is so perfectly timmed it makes me wonder...)

MisterOpus,

You have to understand that Rove has been in this business for 20+ years. He knows whos who. Many people that have worked for him were advisors for almost all candidates in the Rep. primaries. Romney, Guiliani,Huckabee, Mccain etc..

I dont know if you knew, but Rove was sort of lobbying behind the scenes for Romney to be picked as the VP choice. Many people that have worked for Rove are indeed in the Mccain campaign including his protege schmidt. So yeah im sure that Rove contacted them to advance the nomination of Romney to be the VP. But that dosent mean that Mccain or his camp are turning to Rove to give them the seal of approval to what they should do or how to run their campaign. Mccain has a great staff of advisors coming from all camps, including staff from the Romney & Guiliani etc..

Its misleading to say that Rove is the architect of the Mccain campaign. The architect clearly is schmidt. As a matter of fact is the one that Mccain trust the most.

Who would Rove pick as VP?

Rove pushing Romney for VP

Hey Im sure that Mccain is taking Roves advice

I don't deny that at all.

You actually have a point, and I also ran across a few sources indicating this conflict between who Rove wanted (Romney) and who McCain really wanted (Lieberman) as VP. While Schmidt is clearly in control as the top advisor (whom you admitted is a proteage of Rove), I think it's equally misleading to think that Rove does not have a bit of influence on McCain's campaign either directly himself or indirectly through Schmidt, as my earlier links demonstrated.

Do I think Rove is the mad puppet-master that's pulling all the strings for the GOP right now? No way, but I will contend that his influence either directly or indirectly is still very much maintained.

My point is there is no such thing as the far left in mainstream politics. Democrats and Republicans are both fairly centrist.
