The likelihood of both presidential candidates dying in office seems about the same. If McCain's health or life is compromised while he's in office, Sarah Palin would assume the Presidency. SARAH PALIN WOULD ASSUME THE PRESIDENCY. That would be like 9/11 x 1,000.
When asked about possibly being considered for Vice President just 2 months ago, her response was, "What exactly does the Vice President do?" FAIL!
She's staunchly pro-life and staunchly pro-gun/pro-war/pro-death penalty. FAIL!
McCain picked her after having only met her TWICE. FAIL!
She's an ultra-conservative Christian who preaches morals and values, with a pregnant underage daugher. FAIL!
I'm 24 and I've been to more countries than her/traveled outside the country before her. FAIL!
The people we pick to help run the country are supposed to be BETTER than us... more intelligent, more informed, more accomplished, more exposed to the world. She probably wouldn't even recognize half of the world leaders if they were standing right next to her. She's a former TV sports caster for Christ's sake!
Speaking of world leaders, we may be progressive/pseudo-progressive here in the west with men and women being seen as 'equals', but there are PLENTY of places in the world in which she wouldn't even be given the time of day, even if she WERE the US President.
With our troops stretched thin enough already in the middle east, and the current situation in eastern Europe escalating I personally wouldn't want her finger anywhere near the red button that would launch missiles or deploy troops of any kind. She's got a history of abuse of power, just like Bush which is exactly what we don't need right now.
The Republicans needed to steal some thunder from the Democrats and what better way to do that than jumping on the 'change' bandwagon and appointing a female VP pick. Fortunately for them, the people they're catering to aren't actual thinking people who would be critical of such an underqualified candidate running for such a high position. Certainly no woman who voted for Clinton is going to vote for McCain so that idea FAILS right off the bat. All they can do now is try to win the vote by unifying their party before any more dirt is released on Palin.
I don't agree with McCain on a lot of issues, but I recognize that he's a strong candidate with an abundance of experience nonetheless. Palin on the other hand is just completely unqualified. Don't piss on us and then tell us its raining. Pick an actual candidate man!
I know that Obama and McCain aren't too far apart in the polls and that it will be a close race to the finish but its already over in my eyes.
W. Bush may very well go down in history as the President who was so terrible that Americans decided they'd be better off taking their chances with The Black Guy. |

The scary thing is that at this stage of the game 4 years ago, Kerry was very much above the 50-mark and then it always seems people come out of the woodwork when it hits November. It's the greatest mystery as to how polls are always wrong. Unless Obama hits the 60 mark, I will not be able to rest assured that he's 99% going to take the presidency. |
