the current 'state of trance' (pg. 3)

The problem with the issue you're raising here is that you're placing too much significance on ASOT and Armin.

You criticise the attitude of producers who produce solely to get their records played by Armin, yet at the same time you interpret a demise in the quality of ASOT as a demise in the quality of trance AS A WHOLE, and that is simply ludicrous. Yes, Armin is playing records at the moment and ASOT is flooded with these, but that does not mean trance, as a genre, is in a 'bad state'. Armin and ASOT is one strain of trance, other DJs play other strains. If you don't like what Armin's playing now, then instead of assuming all trance must just be crap now, actually try and accept that Armin himself does not represent trance and you should start checking out other DJs.

You can't accuse an entire genre of going downhill merely because one DJ you used to like is playing less good records these days.

Also check out: Normfaktor - Terra Machina, good mix of different EDM/trance styles

This is so true. I often find in many genres that the most inspiring tunes come from relatively unknown producers trying harder and producing a better quality product because they need to establish a reputation first. I also find that many producers/DJs once they have a taste of fame & fortune often let their standards slip and start pumping out rubbish for the sake of having a new release each month, hence cashing in on their own name.

realistically the CDs armin van buuurn, paul van dyk and everyone else puts out are not the best tunes. trance music is sweet only when it's live and mixed and the mp3 is 156 megabytes. or when you get the chance to check out a sick dj lives? that's the ultimate time. but that doesn't really get to happen that much. i just keep downloading mixes from everywhere.
Darkarbiter
I'll take note that trance music is only good at 156 megabytes then.

It's not that there is more crap now it's just that more and more tracks are labelled 'trance' when they shouldn't be so the qualifying pool is ever expanding.

Also, ppl constantly analyzing the 'state of trance' too much just make it worse for themselves and also more challenging for producers that want to stay motivated crafting something worthwhile. The haters say EVERY Trance track is and those with their heads in the clouds expect everything to sound like the trance of 1999 - not gonna happen!
kadomony
everybody should check out these 2 releases.

It's got everything: buildups, drum rolls, and a few bars of silence before the breakdown.

Sean Tyas is one of the reasons why Trance music is so ty these days

No wonder trance is out of style in the mainstream. "Ferry Corsten killed it". I hardly listen to "McTrance" anymore, moved on to other genres/subgenres.
