i have vista 64, but have been holding off installing it. Still using xp 32. At this point in time, do almost all mainstream computer software run on 64, or are their any specific programs i should be concerned about that will not run? thanks |

If you have more than 3 GB of RAM or x64 software - install Vista x64.
If not - forget about it. |

Pretty much everything will run fine on Vista 64-bit, but as RJ said, there's no point unless you've got 4GB RAM. |

make sure all your drivers are certified windows x64 or at least known to be working on 64 bits. |

Yeah, all Vista 64-bit drivers have to be signed or they won't install without certain computer witchcraft. |

drivers are not the only concern... look into the specific software you use today. some 32-bit software runs like watery over the WOW*64 layer
microsoft has acknowledged performance considerations of 32-bit software on 64-bit Windows for some time, and I'm not sure how far they've come yet in addressing it. |

yeah, thats what i meant, signed is obligatory, but them being certified is an added bonus for your system's stability sake. |

Got a new HP tower yesterday, runs blazing fast.
Was surprised that it didn't have too much bloatware.
What virtualization solution are you guys using under Vista 64? Vmware isn't working for me since some of their drivers are unsigned.
My goal is to have a vm machine for browsing and executing all the cracks/keygen/warez :D |

Waiting delivery of my Dell E6500 with 8GB of RAM. Going to try out Vista Business 64bit.
VMWare Server 2.0 (release candidate) is what I plan on trying, also VMWare Workstation 6. It says is supports Vista 64 as a host and guest OS. |

Is it a HP Compaq dcXXXX or dpXXXX model? If so, those are our commercial models and meant for business. Presarios and Pavillions are consumer models, so have a lot of extra crap added on for n00bs. |
