ever hear the saying.... "DOn't toot your own horn" ?? American's tend to dwell in their own prosperity. Not good when the majority of the world lives in unprosperous conditions. It's like the smart kid, or the rich kid at school who flaunts it and thinks they're superior to the other kids. Then they wonder why they get ganged up on and beaten up after school!!:crazy: or jumped and robbed. |

When you have a horn as huge as ours its like a bad pair of shoes, it squeaks no matter how one turns or walks, and people take offense at the squeaking while ignoring the fact that it is the property of the thing which causes it to squeak, not the property of the person inhabiting the shoe. Just as people inhabit America, they shouldnt be blamed for its greatness, it is great in its own right through ideals and government, and if all the people were to die and new peopel inhabit it, the same ideals and laws which uphold our country would continue to make it prosper.
Side note: Im rich and smart and I beat up the other kids. The few who tried got their heads smashed into the walls !

Ok, so I mainly hang out in the swedish section, but I just had to reply,
Since the September 11th attacks, I've actually begun feeling even more anti-american. Probably because of the way Bush handled it all...
America ALWAYS gets what it wants and isn't afraid to pull "rank" to do so. It is the only super-power in the world and can to what it wants. The sad thing is that too often it does excatly so, with no respect to other countries.
I mean, you Americans must realise that the significantly large portion of muslims in the middle-east dislike you for a reason? They aren't all just stupid s who do so.
I have loads of issuses with the US, but even more with Sweden, so I'll just shut up know and confidently sit back in my chair while all Americans realise why we don't like your nation all that much. |

.. I've been thinking about this awhile.. what I should post here...
I'll try to say it in understandable language, but it's kinda hard for me since I am a little confused with the whole situation
anywayz, there was put that "all you do is bash america, and not looking at other (bad) things that happen in other countries"... true, true.. BUT, In my opinion america has a certain, what is the word, leadership in this world... basicly that's not a bad thing, but leaders should be an example of how the rest of the world should live. But if the entire world would live like the US (yes, I am generalizing here, I know that in the US ways of living your life are very different from person to person), the end of the world would be VERY quick.
Basicly I am trying to say that Americans are not bad, but they just have this lifestyle which is, in my opinion, a little bit too much like: first taking care of our own lives, than we look if we can do anything for others....
I must say, it is logically to live your life like that when you have that oppurtunity.. BUT, since the USA is the most important land on this planet the influence a lifestyle like that has is sooooooo BIG, that the consequences can be lethal.... and maybe the rest of the world is just jealous, maybe (and I can rationaly confirm it) the whole world wants more of "the USA lifestyle" but it simply is not possible... and because of that peeps tend to bash america/usa.. I think the USA should take a little bit more of responsibility for the rest of the world (not that they don't do anything for the rest of the world.. they do alot, but it could be more).
and the statement that americans are not complaining about life: HELLO! WAKY WAKY, you guys have all the possibilities of the country... no-one would complain about that...
..that's it for now.
If you have any comments, please feel free to post them, I won't flame but will try to give comments if neccassery... let's say I am open for a good discussion, but I do remind you that I am a little confused about the whole thingy here :)

This is exactly the kind of "We're the greatest"-rhetorics that sparkles anti-american feelings abroad.
I've only been to the US once and at that point only for a week. Consequently I can only comment on the people I met that week. They were all very outgoing and friendly but those we talked to all had that american pride. E.g. me hiking in Yosemite and meeting some guy who (rightly) tells me how beautiful everything is in that area. When he leaves me, he can't help teasing: "If this was Europe, you would have passed at least ten bars on the way up this mountain". Very innocent but with a hint of superiority. There were other examples but as mentioned I cannot judge americans as a whole based on these.
What I can do, however, is judge your government and its decisions on foreign policy, because these are facts. I can also decide whether I find gun control useful, whether capital punishment is morally sound in my book and whether I think public transportation is a good idea.
And Orbax, you can judge behaviour in Europe as well, and apparently you have. But please tell us what you know of our communications systems, corrupt populace, corrupt police force, and corrupt governments. And when postulating that "Europeans should quit sitting on the fence until its clear who will win and then bash the losers." tell us what you are thinking of. General statements like these are of no value.
About "Europeans trying to make themselves look better bashing America" I partly agree. Lots of politicians with minority complexes in Europe will often use the US as the big bad wolf, but when that is said, you shouldn't brush aside all european criticism on these grounds alone I think. Sometimes, we just might be right. |

as far as bashing on our country, yes i agree w/ tiesto14 and orbax here, people seem to be soooo hypocritical these days...ah well,''With great power comes great responsibility'' (courtsey of Spiderman, the movie, lol) :D

We lifted up Europe by its sorry broken ass after the world wars and "forgot" billions in debts owed to us, and we continue to give. We are the greatest, least respected nation on earth. |

and about pride in parks...America has the #1 rated national park in the world. This rating is done by sheer amount of visitors and it includes the fact that there are a lot of Americans. It factors in how many people travel to the country to see it. Yosemite is among the greatest ever.
and again, we ARE the greatest. You know it, I know it, the American people know it. If nothing else its like what Malcom X said, "Power percieved is power achieved"... everyone THINKS we are the most powerful nation, therefore we are. That statement is 'if nothing else'.
Your communications systems and especially the internet are based on the x.25 and x.50 protocols. You most likely dont know what this means. Ill tell you. Outdated. Pure and simple. I think Moses talked to God with the same system that you guys are using. |
