I use a macbook and a custom built PC. The Macbook is the biggest over priced over-embellished piece of in the world and I regret buying it.
The hardware is the exact ing same hardware you can get in a PC, just in an aesthetically "pretty" package. Oh correction, it isnt:
-because when I went to upgrade to 2gb of RAM last year (mushkin for $90 vs. apple's kingston-value for $300), upon pulling out the current RAM, lo and behold, the contacts were ing CORRODING. RAM, or ty connection inside. (and no I'm not using my macbook beside the dead sea on a daily basis either)
-overall build quality is crap too. I take very good care of my notebooks, but the little plastic ridges to keep the screen off the keyboard when closed have broken through the top keyboard cover, I can glue it, but I think I'm going for a new keyboard, so I'll be out 70 bucks and load of time.
What do you lose from the HP:
-.1 GHz on the proc's clock speed. Oh no ! I can't do task X in 3 seconds, i can only do it in 3.025s? damn :(
What do you gain from the HP: (for a mere $150 more)
-Most notably: 15.4" screen vs. 13.3" (which IMO makes up the difference alone)
-3072MB Of RAM vs. Mac's futile 1GB (But you can upgrade to 4GB for only $300! What a deal)
-320GB Hard Drive (enough said)
-BLU RAY DRIVE !!! WITH AN ACTUAL DVD BURNER ! (Notice how the mac is DVD-ROM? According to Mac Tech's you can't even use an external burner with a macbook unless it's a macbookpro)
-HDMI Port, who the wants to go out, buy a 6 inch apple mini DVI cable, and then another cable to connect to an external monitor/plasma/lcd. seriously off apple.
-An ACTUAL GRAPHICS CARD ! and a great one too. 8600 mobile by NVIDIA (256MB). What does the mac got, that piece of generic Intel GMA they've been using since the 1.83GHz Core duo models in what, '06?
You may be asking, why didn't i look at the value comparison before i bought my ty macbook? Solely because I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't going insane, that PC's still pummeled Macs.
as for OSX, I get more problems than I do with Vista (with which I've been so fortunate to have none), system hangs all the time on OSX.
Wireless card is super picky and either kinda likes me, or hates me. I get a better wireless connection in my home on my goddamn HTC Touch than I do on my Macbook.
I have a multitude of other problems but don't care to go through the rest right now, I have better things to do than lose sleep over it.
