when you're feeling sleepy in the early afternoon, try drinking peppermint tea
smelling salts given to people who have passed out or whatever have lots of mint in them so it will pick you up just as much as coffee would and it's caffeine-free
I drink about 2-3 coffees per day depending on what i'm doing that day
I have been trying to limit my coffee in-take because i get nasty withdrawal headaches when i don't drink it which means i'm hooked which is bad :(
I have tried the peppermint tea and it actually works for me |

Take breaks. 50 mins of work, 10 mins of break. Go outside and stretch or something.
Drink water. Lots of it. I find snacks help (granola bars and nuts. healthy stuff)
If your office allows tunes, well, it helps me stay awake. (Or dance in my chair. My coworkers made fun of me once)
Being stuck in office sucks, but more you're able to vary your routine work, better your attention span will be and more productive you'll become.
. I actually learned something in leadership courses. :( |

every ten minutes I take for a break, I have to make up at the end of the day (we clock out to pee)
So in an 8 hr shift, I'd have to make up 80 minutes every day for 8 ten minute breaks. |

I'm only telling you what science says :p About 40mins is optimal threshold for attention span and retention of memory.
No wonder you're tired and stuff. Your ass is planted firmly to the chair.
Either way, try to vary your office work as much as possible. (Even 5 min breaks do wonders, just getting away from your desk for a while) |
