I'm planning to buy a laptop and so far I've found this:
HP 6820s KU473ES
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2410 2.0GHz
Chipset: Mobile Intel PM965
RAM: 2048MB 667MHz (up to 4096MB)
Screen: 17'' 1440x900
HGG: SATA 250GB 5400RPM
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon X1350 128MB
Optical disc drive: DVD±RW
OS: FreeDOS
10/100 Ethernet
56k modem
802.11a/b/g
Bluetooth
Card reader
D-Sub
RJ45
RJ11
Audio In/Out
3xUSB 2.0
Li-Ion 6 cells battery
2.95kg
Price is roughly $840, but that doesn't matter because prices vary gratly from country to country.
I think it's well worth it, good ratio of price and quality.
However, I'm waiting for Christmas discounts when price will hopefully drop and maybe some new, better notebook will get released.
Basically, I'm looking for a notebook with 160 or 250 GB HDD, 2 GB of RAM, good CPU and GPU, not that integrated crap. Any suggestions? |

IBM.
Pretty pricey, but worth every penny.

| $849 is a lil pricey for HP i think. 2 Months ago i bought a Compaq. Similar specs except mine having an AMD dual core with 2.0 per core, 3GB of ram & a 200mb HD from Best Buy for $449 on sale. |

IBM sold off the Think* line to Lenovo.
They're a bit more affordable now, with maybe a little bit diminished quality (debatable). I'm probably going to get a Thinkpad when I need to replace my current computer.
Also, the OP should note that the computer you listed above only has FreeDOS as the OS. Just making sure you're aware of that, if it would pose a problem. |

Looks nice. Like you said, I can't comment on the price, but it looks good compared to most other laptops I've seen :)
Meh, I was going to post a similar thread yesterday, so I'll just hijack yours for a while, if you don't mind, Gauss :p
Thread hijacked!!!
I've been thinking of buying a laptop, in order to study when I'm not at home (i.e. when I'm at uni). The thing is, I've got a desktop computer that does pretty much all I want from a computer... but, I can't take it for a walk with me :p
Anyone owns both a laptop and a desktop? Do you actually use both computers, or do you eventually ditch one after a while? |

Usually your work, in this case for school, stays on one and you use the other for whatever else. I kept all my work on my laptop and used my desktop for my daily shenanigans. I did some work on my desktop , too, but i would transfer it right away. |

Go with Toshiba or Dell. NEVER, under any circumstances buy Compaq.
I've seen 2 of those fuckers burst into flames. No kidding. |
