Your dreams....

So I'm working on an advanced degree, running a bit behind schedule, feeling stressed and anxious, burnt out...

...I ask myself, what will I do when I completely finish my education? Or not so much what will I do but what would I really like to do?

I think I'd just like to go home, turn the yard into 1/2 vegetable garden, 1/2 flower garden, teach 5 and 6 year olds how to read and write, how to sing, dance, paint, draw pretty pictures, I'd run before sun up, swim before dinner, go camping and backpacking in the summer...

Basically, I'd really just like to live a simple, healthy life. I wouldn't need a lot of material goods, not a lot of money...I'm totally overeducating myself when you consider none of what I'm learning will be needed if I really do what I want to do in life...

What do you guys want? What would make you feel happy and carefree?

Do you really think that learning whatever it is you're learning while getting a master's will be useful in your career, even if it's remotely related to your field of study? College is not vocational school. You still need real-world experience.

locking you up in a cellar and having babies with you.

Well, at least in theory, cellar, farm, vinyard, south pole... I'm not fussy :p

Also, life in rural Denmark is quite different from life in urban US. Here it's like, 401K, mortgage, car, payments. Although it's nice to be able to afford things like for hobbies and fun and such.

Lies. just open a bar there. You can mix, live amongst friendly locals and entertain drunk tourists.

I'd like to come into a ridiculous and mysterious inheritance from some distant ancestor on my mother's side of the family.

I have always loved houses, so I would commission one to be built in some New England town - one that I could ensure would last for hundreds of years. I'd have an enormous library with candelabrum and great volumes of books as old as I could find them. Doesn't even matter if they're in languages I cannot read, books are one of the few things you cannot waste money on.

I'd also like to own my own Vineyard somewhere. Or at least have a friend who did. :toothless

Given the time and funding, I'd like to know as much about the creation of traditional absinthe and other spirits as possible. I would then like to distill my own Absinthe. I know you don't need a great amount of wealth for this, but I certainly do not have the means to do so at this point in time.

With my money, I'd like to open an enormous Veterinary clinic. I don't know much about medicine at all, even less about animal medicine, but I would like to hire some of the best people for the job I could find. I would pay my staff whatever it takes to keep them happy and on top of all that, the clinic would completely be free to the public.

I've actually done quite a bit of travelling in my actual life, but in this alter dreamworld, I would like to travel to as many places as possible.

Sort of funny that I would rather wish to fund as many other people's education as possible, but never really my own, now that I think about it.

In my dreams, I am a great benefactor of small renown. I'd rather be known for my ing amazing Absinthe recipe than my generosity. :thepirate

I don't know if this is really the 'happy and carefree' response you were seeking, but pipedreams are sort of neat.

//I also once dated a girl who was really messed up beyond belief. She had one of the most affective histories I'd ever heard of a human being, much less a small child, having to endure. Our relationship did not last, but she did impart onto me once that she wished nothing more than to open a home for vagrant or abused girls. It would bring me a great amount of happiness to have the funding to throw any amount of money it took to make this dream of hers possible.

Meh, really, I would like to not have to think.

Remember, guys, the dreams of the coffee far above the Kona Coast on the Big Island? I guess the vog (volcanic gas/fog) is poisoning a lot of the coffee trees. That just seems like a real slap in the face. Even my dreams aren't realistic.

Yeah, Ian and Lacks, see, that to me seems fun, a life worth living. Just hang out, make babies, write some books, paint, make some music, grow pretty flowers and veggies or draw pictures... go fishing on the weekend...or pop over to copenhagen to buy vinyl. You guys can drink beer, I'll have a cider.

And for a week or two in the summer, we'll bop on down to Greece and kick back in Myra's bar for good music and entertainment...
