So, as far as moving somewhere a couple hundred/thousand miles away. What's the best way to fund this new life? Most jobs I know of wouldn't hire someone without an interview. Would it just be best to save up quite a bit before moving? |
Phone interviews. |

Denver is a great place to live, I like it a lot here//
- 4 seasons. It stays fairly dry here all year round, but Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter are all very clearly definable times of year by the weather/temperature.
- the economy here is quite healthy, so it's very easy to find a job when you need one.
- snowy mountains mean snowboarding/skiing/sledding/sitting in the lodge getting trashed on Irish Coffee.
- Marijuana is basically legal here.
- Crime is pretty god damned low here.
- Suburbs of Denver are really quite affordable. You could find a niche in the metro area for probably about the same price as anywhere in the midwest, only with the conveniences of being in a city.
- Chipotle.
If you're looking for true ingratiation with "culture" however, I don't think the north of this continent will suffice. But seeing as how you are coming off as a semi-spoiled and malcontent midwesterner with a bad case of igottagetouttathistown-itus, I very much doubt you are looking to experience living in alternative cultures, and rather looking to just transfer your lot in life to somewhere else equally different from your current location. |

Start applying to places now, and if necessary you can fly/drive to the interviews. It will be a little expensive at first, but you seem to understand that you must save a bunch. I recommend saving enough to live for 4-6 months wherever you plan to move.

So I think I've actually settled on Sunset Park in Brooklyn. I'm looking at something in the $400-$700 range (for a room, mind you, not the whole apt.)
Any tips? Pros? Cons? |

Sunset Park is actually a pretty safe area from what I've read. |
