I forced myself not to read this thread until I finally broke down today.

Wow, the ignorance behind this alone made me not even read the rest of your post.

Ahhh, yes, it is so ignorant to think that highly paid veteran's of the industry should not be playing dancefloor mainstays (read: cliche) tracks that every other local DJ has been playing in most cities on a routine basis for the past 6 months to 1 year. Even fans from such booming metropolises of Shawinagan and Moosejaw are familiar with this kind of music....

...would you care to elaborate on what you find so offensive/ignorant about that statement, my erudite friend?

Yeah i'm with you on that. When I go hear a "superstar dj" I want to hear fresh music I havent heard before. If anyone has the hookups to play and break new music its them.

a dj reads the crowd and responds according and plays what he thinks will get the crowd moving, not satisfying the taste of few.

n00b crowd means more crowd pleasers. just the way things work

a good dj can get the crowd moving without resorting to playing cliched tracks / anthem after anthem. n00b crowd or not.

Yeah, I know Yohan, quite familiar with the concept lol....

If you are going to "play to the crowd"...I would hope its with fresher tracks or ones that you have produced yourself...not Dubfire, the most prolific "popular" producer/remixer in the last two years. I just expected more from Cox is all.

I'm learning to manage my expectations...its a painful process.

agreed to a degree, but in my view n00b crowds want to connect with the tracklist and want to hear some familiar tunes, or else they get impatient with the DJ. (and grindhouse is not a bad tune... just overplayed)

i prefer to walk into a set and be blown away with tunes I can't even ID, but people like us who have listened to a lot of EDM and have a standard different from others aren't as common

you play to the crowd, not exactly what you'd like to play
