Need serious input regarding CDJ equip

Alright, here's the snapshot.

Avid EDM listener since '99
First hands-on vinyl experience/training with Tiesto's Flight 643 on friend's Technic 1200 T-Tables
Light public DJ experience; all with CDJ players:
- one 10 min session at WH;
- few 15 min sessions in Queens lounge

NOW; looking to perfect skills with own, in-home equip; something to call my own; since all my "mixing" experience was through a friend's or club's equipment.

What would be the BEST CDJ setup in your opinion?

I'm looking at the Gemini CDM3600 .. since I wanted a dual CD player setup; the set-up already comes with a mixer for me to work on the mixing skills .. I basically didn't want to buy the Pioneer CDJ-200s separately .. and then hunt down a mixer.

A friend of mine, who has 10+ years experience in the field suggested I start off with the Denon 2600F .. or start with perfecting vinyl on the Technic 1200s ...

Anybody agree; disagree with this path? What I'm looking for is real feedback - from the in-home DJs, to the pros on the TA board. From the preferred set-up; equipment, to tips, if any.

the best cdj setup would include 2 Pioneer CDJ 1000's. Every respectable club has them installed, they're industry standard.

If you're looking for cd decks for home use and to learn how to dj on, there is no need to drop $2k on them. Pioneer makes some great entry level cdjs...I believe they have a 400 model which is solid, and an 800 model which is essentially the same thing as the 1000, save for a few features.

My first cd deck was a Pioneer dual cd deck...the CMX 3000. Function for function, its comparable to the cdj 800 and very solid.

I've owned Denon decks (the two motorized platter decks) and really didn't like them much. Pioneer is definitely the way to go imo.

dont invest in that gemini3600 , i have it and regret it even though it was cheap. my advice is pick up 2x cdj400s and a mixer, im going to get those w/ a djm400 as my next setup. the cdj400s are small and have every function a cdj800 does.

ive taught myself how to DJ in CDJ 1000s...then i had 800s for a while and a Behringer mixer..then got 2 CDJ 1000s MK 3 and a DJM 800..i think i have pretty much perfected my skills and if i had the money for TTs i would so buy them..ive spun vinyl a few times but not trance..it was minimal..i know what im doing with vinyl and would love to play with my Traktor on vinyl..practice makes perfect..dont waste money and wait for better gear..if money is an issue..get an DJM 500 and 2 CDJ 400's

mwahah, guess I gotta stick with the Jesus poses at home for now, but GREAT advice all.

If the 400s were invested in .. any preferred mixers? What is the price range I should expect for two CDJs + a mixer to learn/perfect skills on?

400s are $600 or $650 each and a DJM 500 new is like $700..used u could get for like $500-$550..with this equipment youll be set to play any club with the standard equip (1000s & DJM 800)

nothing wrong with jesus-posing at home. so long as you don't head to your first gig and jesus-pose while trainwrecking :) gmoney's prices are spot on...make sure you raid the internet as well as your local used equipment dealer, as pioneer's are tanks so no worries buying them used. just don't let me beat you to it as we're looking for nearly the same setup... :)

I have the 800s and recommend them, the 1000's are a little overkill

price matching at guitar center is your best bet once you find what you want. i recommend the djm400 for a home mixer, as its essentially the same as the 4 channel higher end mixers from pioneer. i purchased my cdj800mk2's for $630 each in 2006 by price matching, and i recommend them or the 400s. upgrading your gear later on is unrealistic 80% of the time.

djm400 is kind of a weak mixer. I'd recommend an Ecler in that price range

What genre do you want to spin? Makes a difference on what kind of mixer you should get.

Whatever you decide to buy, I strongly suggest you learn how to spin vinyl. Your mixing skills will definitely be better than if you just spin using CDJs.
