I would totally agree with this if the opening d.j is playing for an hr or 2 prior to the main act. but if the opener's slot is slated for 4 to 5 hrs, then what? bore the out of the crowd till the headliner gets there?

I guess I have seen Danny Taneglia, Ferry Corsten, Deep Dish, and Danny Howells play marathon sets. All were actually really good, and had their moments.
I've seen a lot more 4,5 hour sets, and I must admit that most DJ's just do not know how to build for that long. It seems like they start building, get all excited start dropping bombs in the middle of the set, then have to fill it out to get to the end. I would much rather see a DJ play a 2-3 hour of pure quality.
It seems I have got too used to the multiple DJ's in a night formula, to really listen to one DJ for such a long time.
Of course Howells is the exception to everything I have said, and I would gladly pay to see him play more open-close sets. |

If you honestly think that VDub's post in question was elitist in any way at all, then perhaps you need a bit of a reality check. The only bit that anybody in their right mind may misconstrue as being "elitist" is the very first line of the post. Even then, you took it upon yourself to refer to him as a "queerboat" and a "ballwasher," neither of which were really called for.

I don't think anyone but you gives two iotas of a if Toronto locals are "well connected enough," or go on tours enough to warrant them being referred to as high class international talent by those in other countries. They give everybody here the best damn shows they possibly can (most of the time), and often go way above and beyond what is expected of them. Thus, most of us really enjoy seeing them, as is evident by the turnouts to events that are manned only by local talent.

Sure, the tone of the line you speak of is certainly a bit smarmy, but again: Why must you constantly up everything that everybody says? The ridiculous volume of smug that you emit is enough to get the state of California require that if you visit, you must wear a label that states that you are known to the state as a cancer causing substance.

The reason that I'm singling you out here is not because of this single post, really, it's because you do this every ing time in so many different threads. As mentioned, every post you have is pretty clearly intended to be confrontational, and I'd love to see the forum stats on the number of users that have you on their ignore list. Not that you care, I imagine (insert picture of DigiNut with his chin at a 45° angle). The animated .gif images I'm going to continue to post just to upset you, as the Kool-Aid points I'm earning are helping me get that sweet ing clock radio/CD player from that catalogue they have. You know the one I'm talking about.
Basically, quit being a prick to so many people on the forums. You'll probably live longer for it. |

Although I just came into the scene when Industry closed, I was lucky to party at both Boa Redux and Sonic. When those shut down, it was off to Stereo in Montreal to see my favorites (Chus and Ceballos, Calderone, Vibe, etc) at the club that set the tone for afterhours marathon sets.
I love marathon sets because that's when a DJ can really do his thing and tell his story. Seeing guys like Calderone or Vibe in Toronto playing these 3 to 4 hour sets, you can't get the proper feel for them because they tell long stories.
Any idiot DJ can play for 3-5 hours and bang out all the hits, but that's so boring and uninspired. I like to go on a journey, with different genres and different peaks in valleys in a set.
I love/miss the feeling of walking out of Stereo, Boa, Sonic, Pacha NYC or any WMC party at Space, etc with the sunshine in the afternoon. Remember the feeling walking out of Sonic in the middle of the madness in Chinatown? Or walking out on to Sainte Catherine after a Stereo beatdown and seeing all the people going about their day in the village? You don't really get that anymore.
I'll get back to this thread later, but I just returned from Montreal and I'm beat! |
