Upon further reflection, although these new changes at The Guv (rock in the D'luxe, mashup in The Drink) could and probably will cause some clashes in crowd, I wonder if The Guv is really pushing to start getting EDM out to the masses. I think a huge market is developing in the mainstream for EDM and "rave"-esque clubbing. People, mainly the youth generation, are getting bored of the hip-hop, emo-rock, etc from the past generation. For example, it seems like 75% of the conversation I hear with my friends outside of the scene in the past 2 weeks is about how Tiesto is coming and how excited they are for it.

I think this move could potentially bring a lot of new blood to our scene, which is a good thing.

It seems that all those whining about "the z-103" crowd are also those who whine that we don't have big festivals like the do in Europe. Do you think the 10s of thousands that go to these festivals are "in-the-know" cool dudes like all of you? Most of the people who go to European festivals and Ibiza barely know any, or none of the DJs playing. They just know that it's Ibiza, Dance Valley, Sonar, Timewarp, etc.

Also, here's a bit of a newsflash: Guvernment parties are already pretty mainstream. So sorry, but I don't think anyone would consider you "trendy", or "in-the-know" for going to The Guv. Most of the people in this category probably don't even really care about this move because they barely/rarely go The Guv anyway.

For sure. I agree with this completely.
The Drink mash up can be cool if it does bring a different type of crowd.
As for diversity in the scene the more people into things the larger it grows and soon, festivals, big ones like the Bacardi tent at V fest (and larger!);)

They're in the Acid Lounge all night now, which is good IMO. Last few times I've been at Guv, it's been nice to have YM as a secondary option to the hideliner. They saved me night during Digweed's snoozefest tbh, lol.

funny thing is majority of club-goers dont like gallery just because of the "dirty" and "smelly" aspects of that room. if they can get that room better ventilation (and better sound) then it has the potential to be truly amazing. i can honestly say that ive never had a good time in gallery to the point there i wanted to stay for more than 10 minutes. the music/talent is good but the people in there are absolutely disgusting.

i hate to agree with this....but i do. I also go in there everytime for the talent and expecting to have a good time, and yeah, i rarely have been satisfied with my experiences in there. I stay about 20mins at the most, end up feeling dirty and disgusting, and decide to go back to The Drink or Guv. For me it's mostly about quality of sound, and the sound system just doesn't do the DJ's justice. and it's WAY TOO HOT!!!!! i hate suanas disguised as clubs.

My only complaint about the Gallery is with the level of the tunes: the music is regularly turned up way too loud; earplugs are a must.

I still fail to see the great benefits to the club goer for the music becoming more mainstream. If anything it benefits everyone else involved but the club goer. As the music is becoming more mainstream....tracks are being produced faster and faster....in hopes the producer will find a hit and reap the rewards. This means the market is being flooded with too many tracks and a lot of those being garbage tracks. Unfortunately, the mainstream market...which is larger then the "underground" market isn't as choosy about what becomes a hit and you start seeing more garbage being considered hits. Then the DJs are almost forced to play this garbage because the thats what the majority of the people want to hear and then the clubs are flooded with this garbage. Its the same problem that happened with Hip Hop. Early 90s Hip Hop was great because it wasn't in the mainstream. Now, every person who can throw a rhymn together has an album....and most of the songs are complete garbage.
