although I hope it doesn't happen, I can see the common sense in Obama take a very hard stand against terrorism to prove himself to the world and I see there being a shift in foreign policy maybe not to be military aggression but economic sanctions that will further crumble muslim countries. but if their people (of those muslim countries, e.g. pakistan, iran) can't manage their own priorities to eradicate terrorism and build a less corrupt infrastructure then I guess it's their own fault... I can go on an on on this rant but i gotta get some work done and this prolly belongs in PDD...

peace.

The pressure on Pakistan will most likely come from more than just the United States. Pakistanis are not all terrorists, and the majority are pretty good people, but terrorism does have deep roots there and it effects more than just America. It certainly helps western countries that they would be able to count on India to help with this, limiting the actual mobilization of troops to be able to concentrate on Afghanistan. These are only my beliefs.

I do think every diplomatic possibility will be exhausted before conflict, but if that does not work it is going to be pretty ty for all of us. While i never quite "got" the motives behind Iraq, I always thought and understood that Afghanistan was the real problem. If they chase the terrorism threats from there, it would only make sense that they find ways to assure that this conflict was not to just displace threats, but eradicate them. Terrorism will never be completely gone, but it could be limited. Obama has always made it clear that Afghanistan was were the real priority is at. Combined with it being an effort that more countries are behind than Iraq, hopefully we will see results.

agreed. the people of the US will not support another war any time soon unless that country can be directly linked to an attack on American soil or American citizens. Yes, we are sick of Iraq and wouldn't support an invasion of Iran, but if you harbor terrorists that try to pull another 9/11 expect to get a call from the US military in short order
elFreak
guys i wasn't talking about invasion here.

there are other military actions and sanctions that can be done without it. No one in the world is too scared of the american military giving them "a call", because they are stretched pretty thinly as is now and without proper support from other countries would be 100% useless.

Some of your problems are ours too.;) The only thing Obama might be able to change with this is the level of support. If constituents of foreign leaders approve of Obama (which they seem to do in large numbers) it makes it easier for them to get behind something.

For any action or sanction to be effective troop presence in surrounding areas is needed. This does not mean invasion.

Ok now this means all u Euro's, Mid Easterners, and Asians can like America again, yea!

Why? Nothing's changed yet.

Seems like a lot of people want to give god-like status to this one man, like he's going to fix everything in a few months. Sure, it's a step in the right direction, but it's going to take a lot more than 8 years to undo the damage done by the last 8, or to restore america's image to what it was like under clinton.

A step in the right direction after 8 years of bumbling gives hope. Hope does not put food on the table, but it does gets people excited and motivated. There is nothing wrong with that.

Oh I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it. I'm very glad he won. I remember hearing his speach in 2004 and, like a lot of people at the time, I was thinking 'yeah that sounds great, but there's no way they're gonna let him become president'. The fact that he did manage to get this far says something.

Anything that will use military action will be an invasion, since the Pakistani goverment would never allow the u.s. to go in after the crap they have pulled recently in Pakistan and Syria.

True. He's just a band-aid for a serious wound: A seriously flawed system. Still, I'm happy he won, and I has hope...it's gotta start somewhere..
Good luck to the U.S. for the next few years.
