There is a big difference between 1960's America and the America of today. The proof is in electing a black president.

The only thing Obama might be able to change with this is the level of support. If constituents of foreign leaders approve of Obama (which they seem to do in large numbers) it makes it easier for them to get behind something.

agreed, i think the #1 thing going for Obama right now is credibility from the masses; I hope he carefully calculates every foreign step to maintain it. I want to see him broker the type of peace deals that Clinton was able to. I still feel terrible about Yitzhak Rabin's assasination :( I was so inspired by the Oslo accord and this picture, that I did an "A" World Affairs project in high school with a Jewish classmate.

I want to see Obama in pics like this all over the world, inshAllah.

I hope for the best but...I doubt there is a place for hope or faith in politics. The last time someone REALLY tried to change the face of America , they got assasinated. JFK wanted to call out all secret societies that infiltrated and corrupted government, he also wanted to give America back their own independant currency...instead he got a bullet in the skull.

The only "change" that America saw yesterday was the change of a new face accompanied by a very well articulated speaker. I think people are getting way too excited and way ahead of themselves...

We've had others - RFK and Wellstone for instance. But yes, they all go too soon. The hope here is that this time he won't.

You're a hater who doesn't get it. You don't get the fact that if Obama fails, you still lose because he's trying to help our country. Why would you want anyone to fail who's trying to help you? The person who just placed himself in a lose/lose situation that's who. :haha:

When the Berlin Wall fell, it didn't mean that Germany was unified - it took another year and a half for that to occur. But it opened the door to possibility, and gave hope to the notion that the future would be better than the past.

That's the kind of moment we witnessed last night. Now we will see if we can live up to that potential.

you know what i'm not comfortable with though? how many of the candidates who've run for president, have over-used to some extent, the theme of 'bringing down the wall'. don't you think? (random rambling)

There is no such thing as politics without metaphors.
