trust me when i say that Canada is closer to being socialist than it is to capitalist.;) Do you know all of this country's policies? Our market is not a free one, there are a ton of regulations in place...something that would have lessened the American financial crisis. |

Socialist = direct state running of an industry and dictation of production and distribution, not just regulation. Unless you want to be one of those libertarians who calls stuff like minimum wage and environmental regulations "socialist."

I never said it was a socialist country, i just said it was pretty close to being one. You can not imagine the red tape you have to go through here to open your own business. It is all regulated, which does not mean socialism yes...but my view of capitalism is being able to open a business (as long as you pay taxes and do everything legally) without having to consult the government for a permit or permission at every turn.
The only reason i invested in a business venture in South Korea was that i could do it without 2 years of waiting for the ing ok from officials. Even language is enforced by local government. You can't put English on a sign. |

That is free market, not capitalism. The two are not necessarily connected -- you can have capitalism without a free market and a free market without capitalism (anarcho-syndicalism).
I am all in favor of free markets. I like to call myself a "welfarist": protect people from extreme poverty and disease, then pretty much let people open any kind of business they want.
