I think they should have 2 NHL teams in Toronto. We can support it and it's so hard to get leaf tickets, might as well go for the other team.
Plus, Hockey is Canada's game.
Look at the USA where Football and Baseball is their games. Chicago and/or NY have 2 teams in those sports. Even LA has 2 basketball teams.
If we can do it, why not?!? |

Even if Toronto gets a second NHL team it will not be easy to get tickets for them either. The corporations will eat up seasons tickets and it will be the same disaster the Leafs with no "FANS" getting tickets.
Beside, you would also need a new Arena to be built as Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment isn't going to share the ACC with another NHL Team. Toronto is not a hockey town...they are a leaf town...any other nhl team will be a second rate team to the leafs.
Put the team outside the Toronto area where they can reach more of a fan base. If a team was put in Kitchener then you can draw fans in from KW, Guelph, Hamilton, London, Mississauga, and even Toronto. |

I can see two teams in Toronto but not in other areas of Ontario. Bettman would rather exhaust all markets in the US (and maybe Europe? - that's a stretch) than go to tiny Winnipeg or Quebec City or even Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, etc. The US economy (and continued lack of US interest in hockey) may force the league to contract or relocate a franchise or two to Canada.
But Toronto is still big market and that's what Bettman likes. They will get a second team, imo, and I think Toronto can support one along with its other sports teams... except maybe the Argos :p |

| it's just a matter of time, imo it's ridiculous (from a business standpoint) that the NHL hasn't done it yet. wtf wake up retards |

I think the Flyers and AHL Phantoms play in the same arena.. it may be possible, I'm not sure though if MLSE would allow that. Money talks though. I look at the NFL.. Giants and Jets play in the same stadium (for now), Lakers and Clippers play at Staples, so you never know. |

For an owner to buy a team and move it to toronto is going to cost them close to a Billion Dollars (not including a new arena).
If you were MLSE would you want the competition....they have territorial rights to the area and if they don't want another team in town...the NHL isn't going to force a team down their throat. |

Short answer : No.
Long answer :
MLSE ( Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment) has a monopoly on teams in toronto Raps/Leafs/Marlies.
If a 3rd party tries to bring in another team, you can bet it won't be easy.
Also, i do believe there is a territorial rule, stating that no club can play with 85 KM of another major franchise.
and since the NHL is hell bent on not letting a team under Ballselie or however you spell it, come into the league.
Chances are, this is simply a pipe dream, it would be more likely a team will return to Manitoba before another comes to Ontario. |

the city sells out their arena for quebec major junior hockey, and i think with the rivalry that existed with the habs it would be good for the league. There are not many good rivalries left anymore...then again cities that are hockey hot beds like phoenix and columbus need teams!!!
boo, hiss.
i would also like to see the jets back before another toronto team. After that i am all for it, as the market is there it is good...plus this team might not have to wait 40 years for a championship:p |
