i would also like to see the jets back before another toronto team. After that i am all for it, as the market is there it is good...plus this team might not have to wait 40 years for a championship:p

LOL if that were ever to happen. Leafs jerseys would then be sold with paper bags too. It was bad enough for Nordiques fans to see their former team become champions in Denver, but this would take the cake :p

Anyways, Los Angeles area has two NHL teams for crying out loud.

no benefit to the NFL to have a team in Canada....it won't happen unless Buffalo decides to move to Toronto. Heck, they haven't even sold out the Dolphins vs Bills game yet.

pretty much the same population, I know. Lots of Canadian transplants there too. But if the LA region can have two teams, it isn't irrational to put two in Toronto, that's for sure.

In all reality, Kings get mediocre support and Ducks are only doing well because of the Cup win.

you forgot san jose.

they are doing very well and have never won anything. I thought the same as you, but venture into the sports discussion forum and you will see the sharks have fans that are interested in more than just fighting.

if a market in the US is making money, more power to them imo.

Nah, I didn't forget the Sharks. San Jose is a decent market, lots of affluence there and I think the NHL was once in that area (California Golden Seals?).

But focusing on Los Angeles area itself, Toronto is a much better hockey market and it has one team, unlike LA (Anaheim is a suburb, kinda like Mississauga). But the only reason they got two teams was because of Gretzky being traded there and NHL/Disney got too ambitious, imo.

better how?

it depends on how you see better.

there is way more money to be made in california than in toronto.

the nhl wants the us dollar.

that's the problem. The NHL/Disney felt the same way.. large population base, untapped market, connections to the entertainment sector, etc. But as someone's pointed out already, hockey is a regional sport that only appeals in southern markets when the team is successful (Tampa Bay, Dallas, Carolina, San Jose can owe lots of their success to the teams on the ice).

I think the NHL has to get away from that thinking, especially with the faltering US economy, weak sunbelt attendance, low television ratings and a continued fragmented televison viewing market that is now splitting its time watching reality shows or posting on web boards all day you and me :p
