| That's right, Texans are afraid of the Obama administration. LOL I can understand buying a gun, I had a collection of them (had to get rid of them cuz some toddler shot himself in the head, not really but my cousins are ing idiots and got me in trouble, long story.) But honestly who needs an assault rifle? and why? if its for home defense a small arm is your best defense, a shot gun or an assault rifle, you might as well spend your money on the stock market cuz you'd be dead in an emergency before you get to your weapon. :stongue: |

I'm all for people protecting themselves, but some "gun rights extremists" go way overboard and make it all too easy for "lawless thugs" and thus America to be the most gun-murderous country in the world. Much more easy than a knife or any other weapon. That's why "gun nuts" cling to their guns so much, even if it means hating their fellow Americans who don't see things so simplistically. But even with "thugs" aside, FBI statistics indicate that they are more likely to be killed by someone they know - a "law abiding citizen" who becomes unlawful with the easy use of a gun to express their temperament. All prisoners in for gun murders and snipers were once "law abiding" citizens who could buy their murder weapons legally.
Their fears won't let them apprehend the larger picture: No matter how many assault rifles, hand guns, semi-automatics or any other kinds of guns they arm themselves to the roof with, it only takes one sniper waiting in the bushes to mow them down and render the tens of thousands they spent on guns and ammo, - useless. Too many of them have been ranting and raving about "protecting ourselves from the government" since our government was founded nearly 250 years ago. Even if we entertain such paranoia, a thousand assault rifles can't protect them from one single tank or one fighter jet if the "big government" is even half as evil as they have been fantasizing about for decades. |

| i applaud the fearful and ignorant in this country for stimulating our economy with their stupidity in this time of recession. these gun-toting hayseed yokels probably didn't watch the brian williams interview with obama where he stated he interprets the 2nd amendment as an individual right and believes gun regulation should be a matter of state rights. after all the concerns of public safety vary greatly from chicago to helena and a single federal law cannot serve both places equally well. as someone born and raised in the south, i understand how living in a flat, featureless region with miserable weather and not much to do pushes people to buy a lot of useless to fill their lives with. if having 10 guns as opposed to 5 makes them feel safe and happy then whatever. i tend to think the more you own, the less freedom you have. how does the saying go? the things you own end up owning you. |

i joined the club this weekend! lol The gun shop i went to said that this week was their busiest week ever! Everybody is buying guns because states like AZ with is REALLY liberal with the gun laws could be affected if Obama takes over.
Honestly though, almost all people that have an assault rifle do not use it for self defense. If you are paying as much as the cost and go through all the hoops that you have to go trough to get one... it will be locked up tight. People that have assault rifles will most likely use a handgun to get the job done. Primarily for a few reason: Its handy enough to maneuver in the house and they won't destroy their house. Best for overall defense would be a shotgun. As long as you are close, they will fell it.
technically my new found joy is considered an assault rifle. I use it for sport, nothing else. I do want to buy another one. I thinking either a combat shotgun or a regular handgun. Shooting is actually alot of fun!

Oh my red-dot sights just came in today! |

I think that is just screwed up thinking. Because somebody wants to own five guns, that automatically means that they are want to kill people. Look, if somebody broke into my house right now my gun is not readily accessible. It takes me about a minute to unlock mine.
Please don't think because i want to own some weapons that makes me crazy. Honestly, if you are going to judge me over something stupid like that people need to take a look in the mirror.
There is a higher chance that one of you guys who "didn't have too much to drink" or "only took one line" of killing somebody with their car.
Also by your guy's logic, if anybody wants a car that goes over 70 the then must have something wrong with them. The difference is that going over 65-70 is illegal and i fire my weapon legally and responsibly.
I AM NOT FEARFUL AND I AM NOT IGNORANT! |

your thinking is screwed up. i never made any of those assertions, i never even applied any of those labels to you for owning a gun. you did that on your own. stop judging yourself.
if you bought a gun last week because you think obama is going to take away your right to do so, then you are fearful and you are ignorant. if you bought a gun last week because you wanted one, that's completely rational.
if you already own 5 guns and believe that because obama is president, you must amass an arsenal of guns while you still can, then your reason isn't self defense anymore, it's personal happiness.
i own a gun. don't make the assumption that because i recognize there's a difference between gun ownership and being a gun freak, that i think everyone who wants a gun is crazy. |

gun freaks are the ones who think the 2nd amendment is the most important right in the constitution. gun freaks believe their right to bear arms today will somehow protect them from political tyranny as it did +200 years ago. gun freaks interpret the 2nd amendment as the right to own any gun in production without regulation. gun freaks buy into nra membership thinking it's a badge of patriotism when in fact they are just empowering the gun lobby to amass teams of lawyers to sue cities for passing the regulations that the people demand. the reality is the nra's only interest is broadening their market so they can keep selling more guns to more people in more places. owning more and more powerful guns is perfectly fine when you're talking about sparsely-populated socioeconomically homogeneous areas like montana, but when you're dealing with areas like detroit, chicago, los angeles, etc where you have a lot of people, a lot of poverty, a lot of economic and cultural disparities, a lot of drug-peddling gangs defending turf from other drug-peddling gangs, it's necessary in the interest of public safety to regulate the types of guns ordinary joes on the street can walk into a store and buy.
automatic rifles with high-capacity drum clips loaded with high-velocity sabots are designed for one thing only: warfare. they are specifically designed to kill as many people as possible before having to reload. there is no justification for these kinds of weapons to be available to the general public in densely populated cities where the largest game around is perhaps the neighbor's dog. there isn't even justification for a hillbilly in the boonies to own this kind of weapon besides personal entertainment. however the nra will argue the 2nd amendment protects every civilian's right to own and carry weapons of warfare. it's rationalized that gun laws only take guns out of the hands of law abiding citizens. well the fact is you can defend your house much better with the ca-legal handguns and shotguns on the market, but using an kalishnikov to do so endangers your own household and all the households around you. i would LOVE to be able to have an ak47 and an mp5 just to play with, but do i think my want outweighs the safety needs of society around me? do i trust the general public to own these weapons as well? no. there are people all around me stupid enough to think it's ok to break bottles over people's heads just because they spilled a drink on them. i don't want these people owning submachine guns. |

I didn't buy a gun last week because i thought Obama was going to ban them. I bought an "assault" type weapon because there is a POSSIBILITY that Obama will ban those types. That is the same reason that i will probably buy another one prior to Jan 20th. (For the record i voted for Obama.) I will do this for two reason: 1. If he does change his mind an ban the weapons, mine will be grandfathered in. 2. I can afford to do so.
Who are you to decide on who owns what? If a hilly billy lives in the boonies where there is plenty of land to legally shoot off rounds, not around civilian population then good for him! It is entertainment and i admit i love it.
Now I'm all for state/local governments to setup their own laws. I agree that densely populated areas should not be allowed this type of weapons.
anywhoo AK-47, MP5's, etc fall under CLASS III weapons. Look how easy it is to get one of those. |

if you read again, you'll see i'm not deciding if a hillbilly in the boonies can own what. i simply stated that he has no justification for the 'unalienable right' to own an automatic rifle with 100-round drum clips. i am not against him having that right, but if it is taken away i don't think he can really complain that he's being deprived of anything but dangerous fun. driving down hwy-5 at 150mph and base jumping from a skyscraper are other forms of dangerous fun where the sky didn't fall because they were banned, but that is still beside the point...
obama said he won't touch federal gun laws as he feels it's a matter for the states to decide. neither of us have any reason to suspect his intentions as he's given us no reason to yet. as familiar as we are with ideologues leading this country, i don't believe obama is one of them. he has more pressing issues to tackle and people's trust to earn. he has a prodigious task ahead of him, one that requires bipartisan cooperation and he's not gonna that up on day one by trying to pass a new assault weapons ban. that would ruin his chance at re-election as well as every democrat in congress. i do believe he'll undo the federal primacy of the epa, close guantanamo bay, repeal the patriot act, lift the stem cell funding ban, remove the abortion gag order and other things that were right-wing ideological goal posts, but i don't think guns are a top priority of his administration. the way he ran his campaign shows me he knows how to prioritize work, he knows he needs more than the far left to get things done and he knows how to be a re-electable president. he also knows he needs 8 years to become the president he wants to be. |

In all honesty, Why on earth would you need a weapon of this nature? Last time I checked assault weapons have been used either against law enforcement by extreme groups here in the U.S or by teenagers gunning down their classmates. For Defense my ass! I understand going to the range to shoot a few and feel the power between your legs but making these types of weapons accessible to anyone who passes the background check is scary. To me self defense a simple 45 will do, why would I need an assault rifle? and if those weapons are banned by the new adminstration wouldn't it be illegal to own one any way?
Am sure Obama will take and weight in the pros and cons on this and make the right decision and its not like its entirely up to him in any case. |

in his defense, this gun looks scary, but it's just a 10-round small-caliber semi-automatic pistol disguised as a submachine gun. a shotgun is actually much more punishing. i have a problem with the federal definition of "assault weapon" myself as many of the things on the list that make a regular gun "assault" are completely illogical. |
