Evolution once was (and still is to some) a conspiracy created by evil scientists against the church. Alien Abductions are most probably caused by a _very real_ phenomena called Astral Projection (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astral_projection - most scientists today still ridicule the phenomena as psuedoscience because with our current tools it is impossible to prove outside of subjective experience) one day Astral proejction will be an accepted phenomena in the scientific community just like evolution.
i saw a great documentary on SBS about two years ago on how the Pope before Jean Paul was assassinated by the CIA because he was sympathetic to the plight of communists. according to the documentary, which in my opinion was quite fairly balanced, the evidence was overwhelming and a real eye opener, do i believe it to be fact? no. do i believe the conspiracy theory is possible? of course having seen the documentary it would be stupid not to believe that he was probably assassinated by the CIA
now i can hear the majority of you guys here (without having seen the documentary) scream "thats so stupid! you conspiracy theorists don't know nothing! the CIA would never do a thing like that! they would have sent the Pope a very stern letter telling him that communists are baaaaaa baaaaaa baaaaad mmmmmmkay." and then the second half of you would scream "you sheeep are so stupid! everybody knows that the CIA assassinated the Pope just like they assassinated Rafael Trujillo, John Lennon, and gave Monsanto the secret ingrediant that poisened Elvis Presleys Big Mac! Its a known fact you idiots!"
the person who believes there is no such thing as a true conspiracy theory is as much a fool as the person who believes all conspiracy theories are true. |

nobody is saying that conspiracies dont exist. what we (or at least i) argue is that the CTs don't possess the amount of evidence to support their steadfast and unwavering beliefs. im more than happy to admit i am wrong about a conspiracy if it is shown that i am. but this hasn't happened for any of the major CTs going around currently.
if they cannot present the overwhelming evidence then why do they hold an opinion so strong and absolute? i think its rather disingenuous to analogise the growth of scientific knowledge with the crackpots that come out of the woodwork to proclaim the sky is falling (again). they only dream about being able to present the levels of evidence/argument that evolution has!
at the end of the day, most conspiracy theories just don't make any sense. |

Remove the name calling and you still have no argument. You resorted to citing DMCA abuses as something that supports your measly attempt at even making an argument. If you had 100 companies with DMCA abuses coming at you, that in theory, could all win, what would you do as a company? You would take the "safe" alternative and comply. i agree, most don't make sense, some to me seem obvious but to others seem ridiculous, and conversely some things that are established fact to the masses seem absolutely ridiculous to me.
its hilarious sitting on the fence in the 9/11 thread, both sides say they have overwhelming evidence, both sides have huge cracks in their arguments, both sides are convinced they are right beyond doubt, etc, etc, both sides to the silent observer seem so amusingly similar :p ahhh i wish we could bring back the religious debates to the PDD :( |

there aren't 'two sides' to the debate any more than there are 'two sides' to the debate of creationism or the holocaust or fake moon landings. there is established, verifiable fact- and there are a small minority of loud internet users that have a slender grip on reality. there is no debate, except amongst the uninformed or prejudiced.
there's no doubt that most of the 'anti 911 CT crew' do not respond well or very maturely in regards to the debate, but this is just born of frustration and the fact that we know there really is no point arguing with people that have serious emotional and/or psychological issues. go and find my very first post in that big thread, which was sceptical but curious and i asked for answers (never got them btw).
just because we're (or i'm) intolerant of cretins with delusions of grandeur doesn't mean we're kinda the same :( |
