and that right there will keep me working....even in a recession. |

If we continue to treat teens / young adults as babies, they will continue to act as babies. |
We are already seeing the results of decades of government babying of adults and its not pretty. |

The 0.08 law is bs anyways. Even if you had some alcohol to drink but you're under 0.08, you will still get your car towed ($200+) as well as a 12 hour license suspension, so that means that they leave you in the middle of the street where you got pulled over.
This just happened to a friend of mine and none of us even knew about it! Driving schools should do a better job at explaining the law. |

driving schools teach you how to operate a vehicle on the road...they don't teach the Highway Traffic Act or review every law on the books. that your job to learn ;)
remember that there are two difference charges...driving with blood alcohol level of 0.08 or more AND driving while impaired.
i.e. blood alcohol could be ZERO and you can still be charged and convicted under the latter. It just means that evidence other than a breathalyzer test result will be needed to support that you were "impaired" (which could even be due to fatigue). |

huh?
If you're alluding to how the younger generation behaves in certain ways - that's hilarious that you think the GOVERNMENT is responsible for that. |

actually im alluding to how our society behaves in general. How dependent people are on the government and how no one takes responsibility for anything. And why should they when there is a law telling you how to do everything? |

Your sweeping generalizations are pretty comical. |

One thing I don't get is if they say speed kills, why don't they limit all car to 120 km/h? and ban all car producing more then 120hp lol. |

there was no way this was going to pass at Queen's Park without some level of opposition .. I honestly don't think it's going to pass.

MPPs urge detour on teen driver plan
Rob Ferguson and Tanya Talaga
Toronto Star
Nov 25, 2008
The Ontario government is getting an increasingly rough ride over plans to limit the number of young passengers that drivers aged 19 and under can take in a vehicle.
The New Democratic Party is uniting with the Progressive Conservatives in a push for public hearings across the province on the restrictions, which have prompted more than 100,000 people to join a Facebook group opposing the limit.
"You can't legislate any dot and dash of someone's behaviour," NDP Leader Howard Hampton said.
The legislation limits teenaged drivers to one passenger 19 or younger during the first year of a class G2 licence. There would be an exemption for family members.
Hampton noted the limit would make it tougher for teens in suburban, rural and northern areas – where there is little or no public transit – to get to school, work, sporting or social events.
Transportation Minister Jim Bradley said he looks forward to the debate on the changes. He said it wasn't up to him to make the call on public hearings. The bill goes next to a second reading and then to a standing committee, which will determine which parts of the bill will be debated.
Pressure has been building since Bradley unveiled changes to the Highway Traffic Act aimed at reducing the heavy road toll involving young drivers, who are deemed more easily distracted.
"Whenever there is a serious accident that happens as a result of a perceived deficiency in safety rules the opposition stands up and says, `Why haven't you done something about this?'" Bradley said. "Well, we are doing something about this."
The backlash on Facebook and in emails to MPPs shows the government didn't do enough consultation on the changes, said Conservative MPP Bob Runciman.
While parts of the bill are praiseworthy – such as a ban on those 21 and under drinking alcohol before they drive – the passenger limit is "unfair," added the Tories' interim leader in the Legislature.
"Most young adults are responsible," he told reporters, saying it would be ironic if older teenagers could join the military yet couldn't drive with two friends in the car.
New Democrat MPP Gilles Bisson said the law would put more cars on the road when people should be carpooling.

| I would argue to leave the law alone as is. No new laws are needed IMO. And.... If ANY restriction on alcohol and age is to take place it should only be on those under 19 which is the drinking age. Otherwise its still a BS law that penalizes young adults unfairly. |

Saw this in the Metro this morning. Good to hear.
Amazing how facebook has changed the game. Before politicians relied on, and bent backwards for those people who had time to write in, or call in to their offices. Now, pretty much anybody in Canada under the age of 25 is registered, and can voice their opinion. Democracy 2.0 anybody? |
