have you ever lost your life in a fire? (pg. 2)

Seriously, you had thousands of dollars worth of gear and no insurance on it? That's just stupid.

Sorry about the loss.

How old are you, how long have you been living at your friends... and why? (I'm an insurance adjuster... I'm just trying to see if there is any way we can finagle you into a coverage situation).

Most insurance policies will have Voluntary Payment for Damage to the Property of Others however; property owned by tenants would not be covered.

The best thing to do is have your friend say its their equipment....but you didn't hear that from me.

Sorry to hear that :(
What started the fire?

Good news you were not involved yourself, but IMO, kind of stupid that you would not have insurance. Did you ever even look into it? It is quite affordable.

for the insurance ppls thee to help me, i thank you. ill give further details after my flight back to the almighty t.
someone asked what caused the fire...well, his gf.
she torched the place while we were at work. it was either gasoline (class 2) or diesel (class 5) that was used. really what she was trying to do was self-immolation (? not too sure on spelling there, think im right tho). it is where you kill yourself via fire.
word through the woodwork is that she was put into RCMP custody after she was released from the hospital. my buddy is doing ok, still havent heard from him tho. i dont really expect to. i am sure this is one of those situations where 'our friendship remains but cant see each other anymore'.
i couldve lost my life, him and i ran in to try and save the gear and the records, it was hopeless.
its one thing to have a controlled fire, when it is out of control and you are in the middle of it the world ceases to exist. its a feeling that i hope no one has to go through.
someone asked my age...im 22.
investigators are going through today to draw up a conclusion.

all of you have been so helpful. thank you so much for the support.

if you are a student, your stuff may be covered under your parents home insurance.

your story seems so extreme. how can that even happen!?

i am very sorry you have to go through this.

Yeah, that is crazy!

I wonder how the insurance will work for that since she deliberately set the fire.

And yes, when I was away at University at the dorms, all of my stuff was insured under my parents house insurance at home.

There was no way I was going to have all of that stuff in my room without it being insured!

she was fine tho. two nights ago we were hangin out drinkin some vino, hittin some organics, spinnin some rekkidz. we had a friend over and it was all so good.
i was living with them for just over 3wks. so i was able to see everything very clear. my buddy got me a job working with him in dangerous tree removal and i was sorting out my life quickly and happily.
they had normal couples bs issues; attention concerns, money, her finding a job, you know things like that.
they were a good healthy couple. the three of us lived harmoniously.

im just down the road from the house which is now referred to as "the site". im still shook about all of this and its going to be even harder to look at the wreckage today.
i just want to get on that plane and fly those 4400kms back to toronto asap.
