Deodato is producing a companion piece to this film, and is set for release in 2009. I'm unclear how this is much different than a remake, because it has the exact same plot as the first.
It's probably good he didn't title it 'Cannibal Holocaust 2,' seeing as at least two other people have taken it upon themselves over the years to produce their own sequel to the first.
So technically, there's at least two films called "Cannibal Holocaust 2."
I'm also resoundingly sure that they're all terrible.
Anyway, I think some of the exclusive HBO films that were produced between 1999 and 2003 may have slipped beneath a lot of people's radars, like Conspiracy, Wit, and Path to War. I think this did much to enhance HBO's reputation insofar as quality films are concerned, because these films were exceptionally well done, and had incredible performances from actors who weren't so much ultra headliner famous as they are just remarkably talented (Kenneth Branagh, Michael Gambon, etc.). |
