Finally, wasting my life at the video store finally pays off. Here are some movies- some obscure- some less so, but excellent titles to check out...

Matewan (1987)
A Question of Silence (1982, Netherlands)
Eraserhead (1977 a must see for David Lynch fans)
A Murmur of the Heart (1971- RIP Louis Malle)
California Split- (1974- RIP Robert Altman)
Network- (1976)
Critical Care- (1997)

There are thousands more.

I thought Mysterious Skin was a bit campish. Completely anticlimactic. You got drawn in for a bit, but there was no discernible payoff other than "oh crap he got raped?!" in the end which you could see coming from miles away :o

I'm about to go watch The Seventh Seal. From what I've read it proves to be epic.

See 'Brick'
It stars that same actor, and also I think it's miles better than Mysterious Skin

Queued. It does seem a bit more intriguing than Mysterious Skin, though Mysterious Skin had potential I just feel as though it fell very flat.

The Seventh Seal was worth it.

Now, that's a good one. Especially considering it was done in one room on a ridiculously small budget in like 2 weeks.

Hypercube and Cube Zero were .

Darren Aronofsky's film? After Requiem For A Dream and Vanilla Sky, those are hardly obscure

Find it if you can. It's about $10 on DVD. You won't be disappointed. There's no serious plot building. It pretty much jumps right into action and hilarity right from the start. The pamphlet it comes with actually mentions that Western critics in the 70's simply assumed the movie to be heavily drug inspired, but supposedly... it's not lol. Supposedly

No one knows about Equilibrium, but it reminds me a lot about the Matrix, even though it's an entirely different plot.

Equilibrium is awesome. No one knows about it because it was released shortly after The Matrix and though it didn't copy off of the style of The Matrix, it coincidentally happened to look really similar. Everyone thought it was a rip off of Matrix so no one saw it. A friend showed it to me on DVD maybe 2 years ago. Excellent plot, action, and special effects. One of my favorites

Not sure how obscure this is on these boards but..

Spun (2002)

Excellent indie film about... you know.

"spun"? oh god, that's a film that should actually STAY obscure. it's ing awful!

zoogla
The Secretary. not so obscure, with James Spader and Maggie Gylenhaal, but very random, not that popular, and incredibly sexy.
montana
spun is a true testament to why jonas åkerlund should stay to the format of musicvideos.
