What does your landlord want? Your cash and your stay.

What doesn't he (she?) want? being busted up or broken or leaking.

Solution. Talk to him like this:

Hey, Mr Overlord. I really like staying here, and I think I'm going to for a while. Stuff is done promptly, and I'm really happy about the price. I've noticed that the furnace makes a funny noise every once in a while, and after that, it gets colder.. A couple of times I went up there to see if something is wrong, and had to readjust it. I think it might break soon, and you might end up with a giant bill to replace a furnace (give him a price you look up on the web to replace a furnace).. I think it might be worth taking a look at it sooner, to avoid damaging it.

I'm a landlord, and guaranteed, if people mention "funny noise, switches on and off", things like that, I get someone there right away... as opposed to complaining about the heat (that's when I would think: "work the thermostat biatch!")

most people think thats crazy talk tho. i am quite toasty by myself tho|

I LOVE to sleep with the window WIDE open during the winter. Cold as when I wake up, but I sleep so much better. Then again I always have roommates that use the heater. I can't sleep well with the temp over 70.

Also, I get warm easily, so I don't keep it too warm. This is the reason that I can't wear long sleeve shirts. I get warm too easily. Too many people like the damn heater to like 75f(23.8c) and I ing DIE when it is that warm inside.

if you want to go the passive/aggressive route then make up a story about how every time you go up in the attick you get this itchy rash on your skin and you must be allergic to something up there and you had to go to the dermatologist to get steroids and cream which cost you money (copay). just be like, "this is REALLY becomming a problem now, it has to be fixed i can't go up there any more"

or you can send him a certified letter explaining the problem and how you need it fixed. it will send him a message that you are documenting your complaints and it might set off an alarm in his head like "oh i better fix this now". and u dont have to get confrontational. if he calls u after the letter just be like, "oh yea i just wanted to put it in writing" and keep it friendly. he'll get the message.

that's what i did about the mold that was growing in my bedroom ceiling. only, i really did go to the doctor about my skin breaking out in rashes on my body because of the mold. they had bleached the spot twice and it kept coming back, so i decided to throw that in there when i called a 3rd time. i bitched that it was costing me doctor visits because of it.

i just thought i'd use my experience as an example of what she could fib about :p

but how is the furnace causing a rash again? yours makes sense, in a spectacularly passive aggressive way...

for myra i think the direct route is better. unless she wants to burn herself in some catastrophic way - although the heater would have to work to do that|

I am surprised it took 3 times. With the way stachybotrys (toxic mold) has propagated in recent years they could have easily had a massive lawsuit on their hands.
