I'm ready! I got 10 tix, a few Brazilians, my trance partner in crime, and even the wife will be attending! So this better be a damn good night!
I was campaigning for lasers on the facebook event news feed, so I'm campaigning here. What's this I am hearing about the US having a tough laser law? I didn't know anything about that. Though the visuals for Tiesto were quite sufficient. Just throw up "San Francisco" and "Let me hear you" and the crowd will go nuts!
If the night comes anywhere close to the night of Tiesto last week, I'll be ecstatic. The wife couldn't make that one, too bad she really missed out.
I'm trying to get some people to go who are concerned that it is 18+,
and it would bring out the kandy kids and puddlers since Markus has become a bigger draw (although not as big as Tiesto, Armin). No offense to the mature 18-21 crowd here. Anyone have a feel for this? How have the Torq events been? I realize there is a certain promoter not involved, which helps. |

1. Yes, US has stricter "safety" laws in regards to using lasers. That said, they have been at Ruby before, at both Spundae events adn TORQ events. But I imagine they'll makeover Ruby Skye for NYE and it'll still have the setup on DAY ONE. I could be wrong.
2. Publically known DJs (locally) like a Tiesto..or even Kaskade (still have never heard a louder crowd than the Kaskade crowd at the pre-LoveFest party at Ruby)...they are always surely gonna bring a super enthusiastic crowd...no matter what they play. Armin is getting that status in SF. Markus isn't there yet. But last time Markus plays a special off night at Ruby (think summer 2007?)...well I wasn't there but I still remember to this day how it was packed and how the vibe was amazing that night!.
3. If there was one thing I was impressed about the TORQ crowd when I went...was who it attracted. You didn't see candy kids anywhere. You saw well dressed young adults there to enjoy the music and dance. I had heard they brought a good crowd, but I still had a little fear. I won't be amazed if this night brings out a couple, but I don't think it'll bring any more crazy people than you see at the 21+ events for big trance nights....
In the end, I would have the samec concerns as you...and I don't! Even bringing Michelle up from LA for this night! |

Kaskade - who? LOL...
1. The Xmas decorations were already in place for Tiesto...not sure if those were part of the NYE decor, but one would think so. My co-worker is helping organize the Xmas eve party (Latke ball) at Ruby Skye, and they are having the decorations taken down, and they are going up again...so there are going to be there at least for next weekend I suppose. Lasers would be nice, but what they did for Tiesto was pretty decent. I never really thought so, but having a VJ put proper stuff on the overheads can really get the crowd into it.
2. Good to know about Markus in '07. I was out of the country but I know my friends were there, I have it my mind they said the same. I didnt remember it was an off night...but I am almost ready to abandon Friday/Saturday nights at Ruby Skye! It just gets hard to go out Thrusdays and Sundays and requires a bit of discipline at my age! And thankfully a job that doesn't care when I get in.
3. Good to know! See you there Dave, come say hi, it's been awhile! |

Im the organizer of TORQ and we have been working hard to make this a "club" EDM 18+ and over event, not a 18+ Rave event. So far its been going really really well, we have a strict dress code in place and most of our 18+ TORQ crowd is a dressed up club crowd. We have the club separated with Drinking only upstairs for the 21+ and over and downstairs no alcohol. So far its been going really well and several of the regular TA guys has come out and supported.
A few glowsticks usually sneaks its way in here and there, but nothing at all what you are thinking of for a all ages rave party.
We are trying to establish a EDM Club night for the 18+ and over crowd, not a indoor rave party :) you can go to our myspace and check out some photos from past TORQs and see what kind of crowd it brings and i dont think you will be disappointed. We always have a great crowd and really great vibe. TORQ MYSPACE
Feel free to message me for any questions you might have.
Hope to see you there.

| the torq 18+ crowds i've experienced were more mature and less candy raver than the last tiesto crowd at ruby that i dealt with. the lack of that raver feel will be the key to torq's success as it reinvents the 18+ crowd imo. the other part is properly defining the torq brand by featuring a good mix of edgier headliners like alain, dan and markus--rather than super trancey acts like tiesto and oakenfold--who would candy out the crowd no matter what. that kind of atmosphere is a big part of why many people i know steer clear of other promoters/clubs with that image. the fact that spundae is bringing in the other half of the crowd will help a lot too. i'm not worried. |

I have had a lot of people tell me they enjoy the 18+ vibe, and nothing negative has really been said. The 18-20 year olds I think have an idea of what ruby is about and what we are is aiming for. They understand its a different kind of party.
That was our goal from the begging, having a club that feels more European, rather than just another 18+ dance club.Usually in other parts of the world you can go clubbing and drinking from the age of 16. I think that's where the energy is.. |

in other words, for once there's absolutely nothing to fear about an 18+ party. :)
