that's true, I do check for cars first
but if I'm crossing and the car is approaching (mind you I'm almost done crossing at the point) and they honk - they get a finger! :p |
Careful, if you walk across my path you might just get a finger...

I know, I'm horrible lol :)
I'm usually really good in terms of crossing - even if it's green but I see a person turning, sometimes I'd even let them turn before me
so since I know I'm a fast walker, and I know the curb is very close, the driver should just relax :p
omg, Ukraine? I'm scared to cross on regular crossings, with a green light... people do not respect pedestrians there, full stop :( |
No way! The driver has the right to be in the road, not you. I jwalk like crazy but i can honestly say that my actions NEVER result in a driver having to slow down or honk at me. If only pedestrians here acting as if they were in the Ukraine |

there are clearly negligent pedestrians and negligent drivers.
for every pedestrian with the douchebag attitude of "hit me and I'll sue you" there is a nutjob driver who thinks "if I hit you, guess who dies!", lol.
what's interesting to note is that those who typically drive have a million stories about jerkoff pedestrians...while those who typically are pedestrians have a million stories about jerkoff drivers.
I think that there are simply a LOT of ty drivers and a LOT of negligent/idiot pedestrians out there.
add in cyclists, distracted drivers on cellphones, space-cadet pedestrians with iPods, etc...and the downtown core in particular is a show every day.
sucks about your repair bill and time off Jay. It's infuriating when that happens AND the other person somehow thinks THEY are in the right. (though creaming the guy would probably have been a *slightly* nastier inconvenience for you, lol). |

i'm pretty sure even if you hit him it would be his fault anyways, you can just say he was jwalking and you couldn't stop
just a lot of and headache to deal with.. |
Based on my understanding of the Ontario Highway traffic act, if you can provide that the pedestrian did not give you sufficient time to yield to them (since you have to by law) they can be fined. Although, I believe the fine is small.
Otherwise, in Ontario the responsibility is always on the driver to yield to pedestrians. |

This is exactly what I try to explain to people. Idiots everywhere. You have bad operators, and idiot people, doing just about everything. So you are obviously going to have bad stories about these people. And yes, as a walker, and cyclist, I have a million bad stories about drivers. I have to vigilant trying to get across TO on my bike, let alone the burbs.
I know in India, pretty much nobody has the right of way. If you are a pedestrian, you run. If you are a driver, you try your best to avoid the walkers.
I remember driving with my Dad in New Delhi. Driving carefully down the road, and some guy, runs, we hit him, he sprawls over the hood of our car, lands on his feet, keeps running. My dad: "Oh, hello there". Absolutely routine. |

| I jay-walk all the time, I'm that dude standing on the solid line between eastbound and westbound lanes waiting for the next 10-foot opening to dash through between cars. Don't worry, it's all good downtown, cars barely hit 45k/h in the core during busy periods. Just don't hit the gas and I'll be A-O-K! |

But you're not damned if you pull up inches beside them and do a hard acceleration into a doughnut or slip, thereby getting them completely covered in snow and slush.
No law against getting someone wet. |
