| I obviously don't know the ins and outs of of stories like these, but if the man/woman isn't holding a gun and/or a hostage, why not shoot them in the leg to incapacitate them instead of going for the kill shot? :( |

When a cop pulls out his gun and shoots they go for the kill shot at all times. Guns are always the last resort, and they have been trained to kill not to tickle.
this isnt the movies. when ur put into a e dup situation you just follow instincts. WHen you have been trained for the kill shot at all times naturally you will go for the kill shot. It's just natural instinct at that point
I have a few friends who became cops. They have told me that they have been trained to shoot to kill. So when their guns are drawn they are always going for the killshot |

There is a saying; shoot first ask questions later. Obviously this is what happened. . . plus killing someone puts fear into the people. So perhaps this event is justified by the police because it gives and example to the rest of the nation that the police will kill you. |

Perhaps we need to address some of their training issues then!
Just that when I read this - "When he approached four officers - two male and two female - they retreated, then fired several shots, but the man continued to advance"....
...I can't help but think they could of shot the ****** in the leg to take him down instead sticking bullets in his chest. They had time to fire warning shots and then realise he was still advancing, so why not have the time to aim 2 feet lower? |

i dunno, I ve never been in a position where i have a license to kill, a gun and some whacked out teenage kid is chasing me with a knife.
it seems logical to shoot him in the leg but we werent there and the journalist who recorded this wasn't their either. I doubt the kid walked at them calmly like arnold schwarzeneger in terminator.
I have a funny feeling the kid was runing at them with foam on his face yelling im gonna in kill you in bastards with a knife in his hand slicin at the air like a wild man, |

| the torso is the largest target on the body. when the officer feels threated they are trained so that when they have exhausted all other options and they decide to use lethal force, they target the most likely place on the body to make a hit. which is usually the torso... |

It's not hollywood. There is no such thing as shoot to wound. Not to mention even if you shoot the guy in the leg, odds are, you'll end up nicking the artery down there. (and he bleeds to death)
Pistols are notoriously inaccurate things. Unless you're about 5m away, most people wont be able to shoot the chest, let alone the leg.
By the time that the cops decide to use the gun, the dude is considered most likely to harm someone and use of lethal force is last resort to stop him. |
