| I've never had the problem. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it must be due to the fact that I don't participate in such social networking websites... |

I don't know how or why, but I think I've mastered the art of tastefully and quickly avoiding these uncomfortable situations and yet the other people never catch on.
Facebook sucks for this though I agree. You just have to learn to ignore people and be civil and explain things if it gets to that.
I started getting friend requests from people 3 years below me in school. Err.....yea I remember your face but why the hell would I add you? Hell I already have almost 500 friends on facebook (yes it's more than I'd want but I've made many friends). If I wasn't selective I'd end up with 3 or 4 times that and I don't see the point. It's not MySpace where it's a race to see who can have the most "friends". |
You'll never win at FaceBook with that kind of attitude! |

I love the "it's internetz, not real life" response. There is no distinction between the two, and this is something I know far better than most.
It isn't as if I, or anyone else who's been in any similar position, chose to "let it near" them - in fact, I've really done nothing except for not bother to add a former drug dealer as a "friend" on a social networking website, and have a conversation with one of my closest friends about how said former dealer is ed off and insulted that I won't be his friend on a social networking website.
I don't really see how choice factors into this at all, but in the end it isn't as if this is going to drastically alter the circumstances of my life. It's just a nuisance. |

Hell,
My godfather has just sent me a friendship request on Orkut (that's what we use here in Brazil). I find it really hard to deny his request because:
- He's my godfather;
- I promised him I would keep in touch with him, after my godmother's death.
The problem is that he turned out to be a real bastard after I made my promise, and I don't think I wish to associate with him any more. He doesn't even live in the same state, so I don't know if it wouldn't be better to just add him and leave him there, as just one more name on the list.
hhmm.... |
