...and releases it as part of her album:

ing blasphemy this is. why? :(

As much as I'd like to bitch slap these no talent ass clown "artists", proper credit was given.

Can people stop crying about credited samples? ing hell. Electronic music would be absolutely nowhere without sampling.
Noisician
oh no, it has nothing to do with crediting. it's just that her out-of-key singing completely ruins the track. i'm wondering why boc let her butcher it in the first place.

Very true.
But if the connection to the original is strong the new formula sounds just like a bad remix in the ears of the hardcore fan.

exactly. she didn't just sample it. it's basically the SAME track with her vocals over it. here's the original:

montana
she did an interview with q earlier this year where she explained this one, basicly she found tracks by b.o.c., zero 7 and others on itunes, loved their stuff and wrote several tracks to some of the instrumentals. zero 7 denied a release of the track that she wanted to do but b.o.c. was flattered about it and agreed on release. directly after i read that i wondered how the geeky fanbase of the boards of canada was going to react, especially since i heard about this one producer getting spewed at after making a remix of turquoise hexagon sun.

Yup. God forbid these "artists" do some work nowadays.

Everyone wants to get paid without lifting a finger. Thus we have "artists" like Solange

And what's even worse, fans of these "artists" think that they are some kind of fresh, new innovators, like they cured both aids and cancer in one motion.

"Oh I gotta buy Solange's new album, it's so fresh and innovative!!"

Meanwhile Solange's album goes platinum for a week's worth of work in the studio

i reckon if this creation of hers merely sampled the track like the album's cover claims, the fanbase wouldn't react so violantly. but in reality she left most of it intact and simply added her dreadful singing on top. and of course her album will sell millions despite all this. it's not art. it's a travesty of it.

case in point: a comment from one of her fans about this piece,

quote:
Shes absolutely freaking AMAZING......
shes soo original, reminds me of that same originality Beyoce had on her 'Dangerously in love' album, but much more fresh and different.

ROCK ON SOLANGE.

you, bitch

This is what I really hate about tracks like this.

Who cares? If the track had been equally but didn't sample BOC you wouldn't give the slightest . Don't listen to it, don't worry about it. The BOC will have got a nice sum for this, and it might just get some people to check out their original when they hear it.

If the sample had been lifted without credit then I would understand irritation, but as it stands you're getting worked up over bad music.
