retarded. |
Plasma was basically an interim technology that has no place now that LCDs can be manufactured at larger than 32 inches. LCD is a MUCH better technology than plasma ever was and will be. |

Sceptre used to be the top quality CRT manfucaturer. They are a well known brand in the tech circles, but outside that is a totally different story.
On that note, their LCDs that I have seen generally are of mediocre quality.
Rob: Well then as someone suggested, wait. You will be happy you did. |
Fair enough, their website only says US and China, and what an ugly website it is, lol!
I can only advise on what I know from UK options :( |

yea word with Ben's advice.
Speaking from owning a 42" 7.1 Bluray setup I'd say this. I do have a PS3 as a Bluray player.
Wait till you can start the foundation (TV) I would kill myself if I didn't have 1080p. Honestly, wait till you can go big. DOn't be fooled or lured into buying just because it's on sale or has red tag or the SAVINGS ARE HUGE!!!!! |

Why did you quote me? I was saying Denys was retarded for the LCD comment.
Each has their pros and cons man, on the level most consumers don't really care, but if you break it down there are differences, truthfully there is no real answer to is LCD better then plasma or visa-versa.
I wouldn't say plasma is an interim technology thou. |

Why not? It is already dying a quick death. |

No reason to NOT buy a 1080p screen at the prices they are, and you want to be ready for the future. Does it have to be a 32"? |
1080p is just a resolution. He'll be ready for the "future" regardless of which TV he gets. 720p is considered 'high definition' as well.
RJT: you can't go wrong with a Samsung TV so I would get that. I'd recommend going for a slightly larger TV than what you want though. Everyone always regrets not getting a slightly bigger TV. Go for a 37" or 40".
Also don't be fooled at the store into a more expensive TV. Best Buy and all those other stores change the picture settings (brightness, colour, etc etc) to make the more expensive TV's look better. Also, when looking at a TV stand at about the distance you'll be sitting at home. |

lcds generally suck, but no such thing as a decent 32" plasma (no major manufacturer makes one).
for that price, you don't have a whole lot of options, but the panasonic (lx85) has the lowest input lag of the bunch. |

The biggest regret from everyone who has purchased a new HD TV is not getting a bigger one.
If you're stuck on a 32"... think short term, because I guarantee you'll be buying a bigger one in a few years. |

honestly, i've looked at a lot of TVs and the biggest differences I've seen between the big name brands and the off brands is:
1. The case usually looks nicer or is thinner on the name brands
2. The menu interface is usually better on the name brands
You really have to look at what you are using the TV for and decide if it makes sense to pay extra for a "name" brand. Do you have a dedicated media room with an expensive sound setup and a blu-ray player or are you putting the TV in the family room of your apartment? Also, how big is your room and how far do you sit from your TV? If I'm sitting 10' from my TV I'd much rather be looking at a 46" TV with a decent panel than the top of the line 32"
And fyi you can't even trust what you "see" when you go to the store and look at the TVs. TV A might look a hell of a lot better than TV B even though B is really a better panel because all the color and contrast settings aren't right. And the differences you notice between panels in the store go away when you get home and you don't have anything to compare it to.
All I'm saying is unless you have money to burn it makes almost no sense to drop a lot of money on a flat panel TV right now, its immature technology that is changing rapidly. There isn't a flat panel on the market right now that won't look like compared to the top of the line stuff 5 years from now. If I'm going to drop $1500+ for a TV from a big name manufacturer I'd like it to be something that will last longer than that. For now I'll keep buying the best panel I can get for the best deal |
The differences between name and no-name?! That is so off base. Vizio vs that Sony I recommended is a great example of how much that is off base. A good friend has one by some "emperex" or something and the thing is too.
Your advice on TV A vs B at the store is great though. They always have sources on the TVs and it makes it hard to really determine which is better.
Also, I disagree that you shouldn't buy now. Agreed that the technology is changing, but if you always wait, you will never have anything. You just have to make the decision and buy one. |

Everyone keeps saying people regret not buying a bigger one, but meh. I bought a 42 and I am still extremely happy with this size. It's all about the room you're putting it in.
I realize that 42 is a significant difference from 32, but, still. |

all stores are different, but the only things we've changed are our sony hw10 & samsung 950 (had to turn it down to avoid seizures), plus two calibration displays that are labeled as such (for the record, they're sub-$1000 plasmas). we even took the room sensors off the Elites. |
