Learn some history before you post. There are Jewish landmarks all over Israel that date back well before Islam. Jews were largely enslaved and taken out of Israel during the Roman sieges around the start of the millenium. Even further back than that, in the BCE years, Jews were oppressed by Assyrians, Babylonians, and Hellenic Greeks. There's no denying that Jews existed in the region.
By the way, the term to describe "Palestine" is of Roman origin. The name "Israel" has been found in archaeological findings dating back to 1200 BCE. |
i never said jews didn't exist in the region prior to the UN mandate. If you read carefully, which most people on these boards seem unable to do, you will see that I responded to a specific charge by Vza that this conflict (between hamas - and the larger palestinian struggle) goes back thousands of years. In fact, that is not the case because prior to the UN mandate hamas did not exist, and there wasn't a concerted struggle to resist the creation and expansion of a jewish state in the region. Furthermore, between the time that Jews created those landmarks and today that land was inhabited by far more non-jews than jews.
The Jewish 'right' to the land is a rather weak claim considering there is no direct link between the land and people other than the amorphous claim of a religious connection. The most concerning issue with such a claim is that anyone who converts to Judaism will have a right to the land under this claim simply because they are jewish.
Moreover, under common law legal systems, of which Israel practices in part, there is a recognized right to land for people who adversely possess the land. I know this may not be applicable, but i think it is as meritorious as the jewish claim to the land. |

Why didn't the Jewish people find somewhere better to call home ? Like Ibiza or sumfin'. All the best Gods used to go there.
You'd think after what happened in Germany the last thing you'd ever want was to move to somewhere worse. |

Both sides are dead wrong but the news in the States is so fuking one sided.
Hamas won the election - plain and simple. The US and EU are the ones saying this is a terrorist organization. That is also wrong - there are Dr's who are "hamas" and other respectable ppl..
It's just not right to constantly hear one side.
The land of Israel was up for grabs and I do think Palestinians should just leave them alone too.
It is a fuked up situation. |

I'm not quite sure it's as simple as saying that Hamas fairly won an election. The Hamas charter states:
| quote: |
* Hamas is an arm of the Muslim Brotherhood (Art. 2);
* Hamas' goal is Jihad and the death of Jews (Art. 7);
* Jihad is the path of Hamas, and death for Allah its most sublime belief (Art. 8);
* The land of Palestine is an Islamic inheritance (Art. 11);
* All Muslims are duty-bound to commit Jihad against Israel (Art. 12);
* Peace is not an option (Art. 13);
* Muslims everywhere are duty-bound to liberate Palestine (Art. 14);
* Muslims must study the enemy, looking for weak spots (Art. 16);
* Western culture is a Zionist plot to distance women from Islam (Art. 17)
* Women must train their children to become Jihad fighters (Art. 18);
* Enemies rule the world through intermediaries such as the United Nations (Art. 22);
* The PLO is too secular (Art. 27);
* All Arab states must support Jihad (Art. 28);
* All Muslim leaders must support Jihad (Art. 30);
* Hamas cares about human rights and religious toleration, provided all other religions live in the shadow of Islam (Art. 31);
* Peace accords are treacherous schemes of Zionists (Art. 32);
* Jihad will not end until liberation is complete (Art. 33); and
* Palestine is the navel of the earth and Jihad is our answer to the Christian Crusades (Art. 34).

Training for war against israel etc...
I just think Israel needs to slow it down. Ground attacks and even before then was taken too far. Plus Israel is violating rules by the UN.... but you don't hear about this stuff.
I'm all for things in a peaceful manner but I think Israel has taken it a bit too far.
This is a real good docu by John Pilgner. It will give u a bit of the other side.
hella long video but very interesting. Somethings are a bit far out (such as a Jewish man who sides with a palestinian suicide bomber who killed his daughter because he feels for him/her (forgot what sex it was))

Hamas violated the cease fire 6 month agreement as soon as it expired and attacked Ashdod, Sderot and other cities. Again, in this case Israel has a right to defend its people.
Israel already agreed to a 3-hour ceasefire everyday and opening a corridor for hurt civilians to be taken out to be treated and during these 3 hours today Hamas fired 6 rockets to Israel. I wonder how can you deal peacefully with people like this? It's like trying to teach Calculus to a dog. |

PLEASE READ BELOW: This is for all of you who think Israel is being "too harsh"...
DEBKAfile's military sources report that Israel announced Wednesday, Jan. 7 a three-hour daily halt in military operations from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as a goodwill gesture for the passage of humanitarian aid. Israel will suspend attacks in certain areas – though not the entire territory - to allow people to get supplies. The measure took immediate effect. Ashkelon took 4 rockets as the Israeli pause began. |
