Get your Australian rat out of Obama's business.

Bush Snubbing Obama At Blair House For Obama-Hater John Howard

The New York Times reports that the the reason the Bush Administration isn't letting Barack Obama stay in the Blair House is that they are hosting former Australian Prime Minister John Howard, and will be giving him the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Fun fact about Howard: He is a staunch Iraq War supporter who said in early 2007 that if he were in al-Qaeda he would be praying as much as possible for an Obama victory and for the Democrats in general.

This is a story because the Blair House is across the street from the White House and in its security cordon. Its historically appropriate for the President-in-waiting to take up in the Blair House to alleviate the burden on taxpayers for two security details, but Laura Bush announced last week that the Blair House had "no vacancies", necessitating Obama's booking of the Hay-Adams Hotel down the street. This wouldn't be such a big deal except that the Secret Service had to book two floors of the hotel (at $1000 per room per night) and stop traffic on 15th St. in order to put up a security checkpoint. So because of John Howard, the American people are footing a bill

So yeah, this is more or less Bush's last middle finger to the American people before leaving office.

quote:
It was reported Dec. 12 that the White House told the Obamas that Blair House was “unavailable” until Jan. 15 but did not offer a public explanation. “We explored the idea so that the girls could start school on schedule,” a White House spokesman told The New York Times at the time. “But there were previously scheduled events and guests that couldn’t be displaced.”

That led to much speculation about who might be staying there and puzzled many in Washington, who said the transfer of power from Mr. Bush to Mr. Obama had been amiable.

Because making the former Prime Minister of Australia stay in a hotel down the street would be such an undue burden that the alternative of breaking historical tradition and forcing the President-elect to stay in a hotel is obviously the better solution.

Racists. :o

And Howard gets a Medal of Freedom? ffs.

But in all seriousness, I actually think this is a tremendously petty and fitting end to an incredibly petty and increasingly pathetic (even into its last days) administration.

Bravo to the Mister Bush - the embodiment the very worst of America.

It's a ing hotel, it's not like the Australian former PM needs every room in the place.

Think this would have happened if Piper Palin wanted to start school early? Somehow I don't.

haha... you sure you don't want a position with the Rainbow Coalition or Al Sharpton's National Action Network? You love to play that race card... :D

Remember, you're talking about the NY Times here, who is so desperate for revanue, they're being forced to sell ads on the front page and then report on that.

The race card is great because racism is awesome and funny.

I think that's the first time I've played the race card. I'm offended you would jump to conclusions about me like that. :o

And while I'm only playing it in jest, I do think that there's some symbolic relevance to the image of a white president kicking a black president-elect out of the guest house and into a hotel.

Erm, so? All papers are desperate for revenue - does this automatically discount the work of all reporters?

For Christ's sake, it's not like this wasn't a verifiable fact.

CLEARLY, there's liberal agenda about. I don't know where or when it will strike, but believe you me - it's out there!
