i don't know but thats not really the question. the question this entire debate gives rise to is who says there has to be a leader and why?

it's pretty clear now if you've been paying attention as to who the opposition wants to be percieved as the leader and why.

if the Donks want to play this game with Rush, and they honestly believe Rush is as doltish and dim-witted as they demonize him as, why wouldn't they want to call Rush's bluff on it?

Because he's not worth the time. Why sit around and play Rush's games when there's governing to do? And do you honestly think that Obama would accept a debating challenge from Michael Steele simply because he claims to be the "leader" of the Republican Party?

well first i agree. but only in the sense that, yes, Obama has real work that needs to be not only done but done better, not that i only disagree with Rush @ 20% of the time. and don't sell him short, Rush would bury Obama on Rush's format.

...but the evidence clearly suggest here that it's the Whitehouse and their acolytes in the media and the party thats all too willing to instigate and continue the game...well, until now.

I don't doubt that for a second, though everyone said that about O'Reilly as well. Rush clearly would be setting the terms of the debate, because he has the political flexibility to call someone a coward for not bending over backwards. This whole idea is just silly though - what POTUS spends their time publicly debating whomsoever asks him to? If Obama debates Rush, does he then have to debate Michael Steele? What about Ann Coulter? Rush is just making a ploy for publicity, and as Alex said, he's probably salivating at the opportunity to question the President's courage when he gets ignored.

you gotta keep up with us here Clovis. politics happens at lightspeed these days. this isn't a sub-forum about chopping Armin pics or some kid's latest dream about ass-raping someones pregnant grandmother.

Jonathan Martin is Politico's resident asshat conservative writer. While I don't doubt the veracity of that story I wouldn't be surprised if much of it was exaggerated. Some mundane effort to draw connections to things that don't exist and grasping at conspiracy straws.

I'll be waiting for another paper to validate the claims.

Carville, Begala deny White House 'conspiracy' on Limbaugh
Posted: 06:08 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Democratic strategist James Carville avoided saying Wednesday if he had been in contact with the White House over ongoing efforts to portray talk show host Rush Limbaugh as the leader of the Republican Party.

Carville was asked on CNN’s The Situation Room about a report in Politico that said Carville and his longtime friend, CNN contributor Paul Begala, pushed the idea of attacking Limbaugh in their daily conversations with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel.

Carville said it was Limbaugh who started the war of the words.

“I think that honestly I don’t want to take credit away from the great Rush Limbaugh who did it on January 16 when he said he wanted the president’s policies to fail, and that’s what started the whole thing,” Carville said. “So don’t give Paul and I, or Rahm credit. Credit is due to the great Rush Limbaugh. So my hat’s off to you, Rush.”

The Politico piece noted that Carville and his partner, pollster Stan Greenberg, began polling Limbaugh’s popularity last year during the presidential campaign.

Carville said he and Greenberg have included Limbaugh in their polls “for a long time,” and said they were working on a new poll to be released soon.

“He’s been unpopular in every one,” he said. “In fact, we’re in the field right now with a poll on Rush Limbaugh, and we’ll be releasing those results. I don’t what those are. Maybe he’s gotten more popular. We’ll find out. I don’t know if it’s a plot or a conspiracy or what. We poll all the time."

UPDATE: Begala, asked in a separate interview whether he was coordinating an anti-Limbaugh strategy with the White House, said: “ I don’t take orders from anybody, except CNN. I don't work for any politicians. I work for the network.”

“My strong suspicion is that the White House has bigger fish to fry,” Begala told CNN.

The former Clinton administration official said he has “been speaking out against Rush Limbaugh for as long as I can remember.”

“I do what I do out loud,” he said. “I’m a cheerleader and not a drum major, so if I’m saying something and people repeat it, I think it's great.”

I'll say it again, over and over:

Thank you Rush.

You're the gift that keeps on giving to us silly little libruls.

Yes. Please keep stoking the fires of your base. Keep challenging Obama on an unprecedented debate between a President of the United States, the most powerful position in our country and arguably the world, and you - a radio talkshow blowhard, uber-wingnut of the ulta-right wing of the "conservative" party.

You are really making quite a statement. I know it will work. You have found gold, Rushbo. This is the key to tackling all those horrible demons that collectively brought down your party in two elections, and will gain back the love of the American citizens away from Obama and towards you.

By God, you really are on to something. Please, keep going. You have our blessing.........

Condescension aside, that article repeats itself several times and is really making a big ing deal out of nothing. If posting some youtube videos, polling numbers and mentioning rush on a talk show is "organizing and orchestrating", well , there must be a lot of that going every day on pretty much every subject.

Rush loves it, the party chairman just apologized to him, and he's all over the news. What is there to orchestrate? And what are we being distracted from? Republicans who disagree with him but are staring at the floor?

The implication of your question is the Republican Party is leaderless. Thank god for that. The party is in shambles.

Actually it's not good.. We need an opposition party. All this sh!t being pushed through congress is disastrous. I preferred the gridlock of the 90s.
