I was a national swimmer too :) Was actually set to go to the Olympics in 2004, but both of my knees blew out in 2003 and totally demolished my ability to go :(
I do plan on being the swim coach in whatever school I end up teaching at though.
What was your specialty?
I was the 500 Freestyle & the 400 IM |

Really? Wow! What country are you from? What were your best times in the 500 and 4IM?
I was a distance swimmer for most of my career, specializing in the mile and the 1000. That sucked :( lol. I became a breaststroker later on. I wasn't THAT good at swimming, like I didn't go to Olympic Trials or anything, but I did swim at Sectionals in the United States and had some decent times. |

My best time for the 500 was 4.17.something if I remember correctly (this was... 7 years ago now haha), and for the IM I was rockin' a 2.52 something (my butterfly was phenomenal, and I ZOOMED during my freestyle. I figured out the best combo of the 4 to make me speedy gonzalez)
I miss it :sadgreen: |

4:17 is very quick, that's a pretty high level college athlete time. I wasn't near that fast. I swam at about 4:50.
2:52 isn't possible in the 400IM. If you're swimming meters, which I'm sure you are, 2:52, even 3:52 is out of the question. If you're swimming yards, 2:52 is still practically impossible, but 3:52 is more likely. |

| Actually, I mistyped. I was checking my stats - it was 2.52 with the 200 IM. 4.21.31 for 400 |

That doesn't make much sense either. How are you so much worse in the 200 IM versus the 400? Don't you mean 1:52? Even then, that's world record speed.
Do you not remember your times? |

I am realllllllly bad at short distance. I have like the slowest 50 speed ever. For some reason I have intense stamina when it comes to long distance - I never could get my breathing right with short distance. Let's just say they never had me do the sprints :haha: (and I had to call my bf and have him pull out my stats sheet in our house so I could even get the numbers, and he read them wrong)
and it was 7+ yrs ago ;) |

I see. I dunno, something about that says your stats are messed up. I don't care how slow you are in sprints, going a 4:21 in the 400 IM means you have to swim your slowest 50's of each 100 per stroke faster than your splits for the 200 IM. There's no possible way you could go a 2:52, then swim an extra 200 and go a 4:21. That just doesn't happen. You had to have been at least 30 seconds faster in your 200 time than what was written down. If you were 2:22, that would be a little more likely, but if your time in the 400 is correct, you were way faster.
Do you recall if you swam in yards or meters? If you swam yards, you would swim the 500 freestyle, not the 400, in competition. If you swam the 500, a 4:17 would be a world record. In meters, a 4:17 is very fast, and much more likely, especially for women. |
