How do YOU define a professional?

pro⋅fes⋅sion⋅al [pruh-fesh-uh-nl]
–adjective 1. following an occupation as a means of livelihood or for gain: a professional builder.

Its sooo weird how open to interpretation this word is.

Like when I'm producing, I can make 4 bars of a track that sound "professional".
But as a whole, when I go back and listen to the best of my finished tracks, only some at best sound amatuer. If I make an excellent track that I'm happy with, sometimes I may say to myself "yep you're a pro", untill the next day or 2 when I'm listening to some genuine pro tracks and I think "ok.. you're no where near pro".

My question here is how many people here call themselves a pro?
And even how many people will say they're just amatuer?

What makes a pro?
Is it someone who makes a single hit track or (durade, I know they have more tracks but they will always be known for Sandstorm and nothing else by avg folk)
Or is a pro more like Blank and Jones? Someone who consistently can make tracks that are just pristine and clear, well organized and complete?

Its crazy how when I'm producing, I get this weird narcisstic "I am the " feeling when I hear some of the things I can do.
Than I hear a pro track and instantly I'm always humbled.

I think more than anything I really just aspire to be a pro. Not for money, not for anything else but the knowledge that I can make something 99% of producers out there most likely can't.

So what makes a pro iyo?

How are you so sure?

I get confused because an amateur can accidentally make pro tracks and pros can accidentally make amateur tracks (which they most likely hide from the world).

I'm trying to draw a line in my head so I know when I cross it.
Subtle
Thats actually a good question.

I`d say anyone who makes significant income out of it.

Isn't being a pro about getting your track really loud and crisp using analog compression and sidechain?

It's not funny anymore. Stop saying it.

Technically, yeah... a professional is somebody who gets paid...
