the run of the mill punters obviously liked it, however that is because the clubber of the new era is severely uneducated in forms of quality music..
have a dig at me if you wish, however this is just my observation..

+1, 16-bit lolitas for teh win!
armin could learn a trick or two from him about SET PROGRESSION
seriously why get excited about a 5 hour set when in the first 30 mins he's already played a vocal anthem, a huge build up trance track, tech-style stabbing synths and performed 7 jesus poses and held up the headphones to the crowd :conf: |

so it was my first time out to a festival in ages and yeah i reckon probably about a 6/10 from me. the crowd is predomnantly hero wankers these days, wtf? the funny i heard muzzers say in the toilet was priceless
"anyone got any flipperz or what?! use are all for the tip!"
"have you got my back or not bro?"
"where is he? lets go find him bro we'll take him out"
good to see some old faces in stips and the panas. missed philby :(
rofl. so armin wasnt too bad.. wasnt the best either.. whats with all the techy ? some of the tunes would have the nicest breaks in them and then all the sudden turn to the dark side. i like my tech but what ever happened to epic? maybe im just "oldschool"
loved the new version of let the light shine in though, tickled my balls. sigh i walked out and heard strange world in the background :).
i think im gonna check out some more intimate club gigs again cause i found it to be way over packed in hisense. is it always like this these days? or was it just last night? |

you're probably right... given that he would receive in the vicinity of $50-60k for a show like this, who gives a fcuk if youre pumping out as long as people are paying for it.
mark james can bring out armin, charge 95-100 bux and know people will pay for it as well because the punters of today's expectations are much lower then what they used to be even 3-4 years ago. The majority actually care about things like massive set-rigs, clown dancers and all of that 'glamourised' because clubbers themselves have become more glamourised.
Now instead of phat-pant ravers who are there simply the get off their heads and dance all night, you have girls who want to show off their bodies like sluts, and male skegs who cant wait to remove their shirts to show off their last 6months in the gym.
Interesting how we used to complain about the phat-panters, however i'd be quite happy to dance in a pack of them, compared with the rock-ape like creatures that frequent dance parties now.
I'm just happy none of them have the mental capacity to shift into the prog room, which left it open for people who enjoy quality music and sound set progression...
Armin is only a shadow of his former self when he was peaking around 2001-2003, and hilariously now he's wining djmag polls given the that is being pumped out. All producers who pump out this formulayic trance which sounds the same should be ashamed of themselves, i'm looking at Armin, Gareth Emery, Kyau vs. Albert, Ronski Speed, Activa, plus many more (including dare i say Mike Nichol).
No-one is trying to 'push the boundaries' and be inventive anymore, its all about serving up an accepted formula, to cash in on the cash-cow express that Armada and Trance has become.
Obviously people will be off-put by this post, however given the amount of action on these boards of late, perhaps no-one will even read it. Some will say that my opinion is wrong, and I dont know what i'm talking about, however being a punter with bordering on a decade of dance music education and experience ( :nervous: ) I think that holds my opinion in reasonable stead....
keen to know others opinions, and bring on some, if any robust discussion |
