I was actually about to start a thread last night asking if other people thought that festivals were ruining the scene.
They're definitely something to be seen at, rather than being something to go and enjoy the music. Apparently yesterday at We Lvoe Sounds Adelaide there were a large number of girls wearing skanky clothes and mini-skirts. Not so much of a problem normally except it was an outdoor party in a park (ie, mud), about 14 degrees and storms throughout the day. The tool factor is massive at these parties.
And i think that the festivals are ruining the club scene too. Think back 4-5 years, the number of big names playing in clubs was massive. Now, you get very few (relatively) club gigs and mostly festivals. At least thats whats happening here in Adelaide, its not very common to see quality acts in clubs anymore.
I would do naughty things to see some quality acts in a club nowadays. The festivals just don't cut it for atmosphere, sound quality, drink prices and the ability to just let go.
And the strange thing is, the festivals here are massive, but when there is a quality club night the club is deserted. Where are the punters that go to the festivals and claim to love the music? Just further proof imo that festivals are much more about being something to be seen at, or going just because its Future Music or We Love Sounds or Groove etc. |
agree, give me a club gig > festival gig anyday |

bull, just because these festivals suck ass, doesn't mean you should generalise that all suck balls.
Rainbow anyone? Now that's a party. |

But hey, you'll never see Armin and other cheese masters playing nor invited at Rainbow ever. By default Rainbow wins!
by the way launch party for 2010 is on October 3rd. Details to be announced. |
