| 450 cd singles, 20 albums or so (trance). what happens when mp3's fase out? i want the genuine article to keep forever! if vinyl burners existed as easily the same as cd burners, would you all still buy the vinyl? i would. |

So far, I've got 98 CDs in my collection, 1/3 of which are trance or electronic music. I don't download albums, it's too tedious and time consuming to put it all together, because I want albums for their full value. Knowing a CD is the original and not bootlegged is a lot better. It's true appreciation to the artist! If we don't buy their stuff, they never get the demographics that let them know if they did a good job!.
And oh yea.... I have a burner, an MP3-CD-player, and am saving up for a MP3-CD-deck for my car.:cool: |

| I havent bought a CD in almost 2 years, but before that, I had bought over 250 cds in total. Now, I have downloaded all the music I want to hear. Mostly, its cause the music I want is too hard to find on CD, and when I do find the song I want, its packed with 20 britney spears, and n'sync tunes that I dont want to waste money on. DLing and burning makes more sense to me, and its cheaper. |

| The only CD's I buy are the hard to find classics. I download all this stuff and even albums to find the songs to get on vinyl. That is all my money is really focused to. |

Aiight, confession time.
Like the cheap S.O.B. I am, I've been taping stuff off the radio for the past 20 years. That's right, you read it, 20 YEARS, right from the day my folks let li'l-shorty-me play with the boom box. I've got hundreds of tapes worth of stuff. I rarely bought albums. It was like do-it-yourself MP3 right from the beginning, and I learned to like that compressed sound of commercial FM.
My way of supporting musicians is to see them live with friends. I've checked out music from artists I'd normally never buy albums from: The New Deal, Stompin' Tom Connors, Napalm Death, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Emerson Lake & Palmer, countless friends' bands several times...and I'm checkin' out Rank1 if anyone in Montreal wants to join me :)
When things are live, you really get to experience the music in its natural habitat, and you learn about what each genre is about, what kinds of people are into it, etc. Besides, a CD doesn't come with a dancefloor or mosh pit. ;)
I think this is the way things are going, that everyone's going to make their big cash from live gigs. In fact, that's the traditional way that a musical artist asserts his/her existence, by going right in people's faces and doing shows. Often that's how they make their money back after the record company ripps them off. :whip: I'm practicing my keyboard chops right now in preparation.:D |

| i end up buying more cd singles then i do albums. have a litle over 200 cds, most times i just use mp3s to find 12" to buy. |

intresting lots of artists go on tours not to make money, eh,they are often lucky to break even . They go on tours to support the sale of their cd. of course unless your a huge act then your raking in the money both ways.. |

If you want to buy it, buy it.
Forget my mp3player and a really fast burner, if I want to buy a CD, I'll buy the CD. Monthly that is 2 CD's. Just out of respect. If you want something (really bad) then why not spend some money on it? It gives (me) much more satisfaction the 'doing it the cheap way'.
If you like it, but don't love it.
On the other hand, I burn CD-Rs that are nice to listen to, but not worth buying it. In this thread there are lots of people buying cd's, my opinion? That's the way it works! If there weren't any people buying that great CD, other people wouldn't be able te download it. |
