narcism I just read through like 20 pages of utter crap on inthemix and it seems no one knows what happened other than van Dyk rocked up 45 minutes late.
This raises two things:
a) Why was he late? It's generally promoters who are in charge of transport.
b) If it WAS his own fault that he was late, he must have been expecting to play for another 45 minutes into the next jock's set (pretty arrogant), but if it wasn't his fault, he had every right to expect that his set would go for the full two hours.

I've only listened to about three minutes but it sounds like . The orchestra doesn't seem to actually add anything to the arrangement, unless you count dropping bits of Jupiter from Holst's Planet Suite in there.
Forbidden Fruit is an incredible track though. If only it were still 1996 for PVD...

i thought pvd did this before already. i don't mind it, it is what it is. though the whole play-with-a-whole-symphony-orchestra idea is starting to get a bit cliche

i have an aversion to techno being played by 19th century orchestras. techno does not need to 'prove' itself as music by being rearranged for orchestra. techno gets all its strength from the machine itself

Its the same type of rep as when people say Judge Jules is stuck up and he's one of the nicest and genuine guys I've ever met.
Paul Van Dyk might not jump around and do the Jesus pose and not smile a lot or clap to every song but that doesn't make him a miserable prick. When I saw him in October, he was doing his thing, concentrating completely and then he started grabbing people's cameras at the very front and started taking pictures of them, the crowd and himself. Not a miserable guy at all.

This had the same predictable result as Mills' or any other attempt at mixing electronic music with classical music live, namely an awkward display of sitting between two chairs without one part adding anything to the other.
My guess is that this issue stems from so few producers actually being classically trained musicians, who would have the technical knowledge of interacting properly with an orchestra to bring out the potential in such a collaboration.

the percussion duo munched on some pills before it seems. It looks as if the bald one was hitting a giant textbook(used to severely muffle the impact i suppose).
I only saw half of it so I cant comment on it all. That performance didn't really need PVD there now did it? he had his Virus monkey to take care of electronic matters, and PVD was pulling a castanza by trying to look busy when he probably is the least valuable person on stage for that performance(just speculating).
I am a big fan of Paul, but it would have been nicer if they went full on classical with this idea.
