Your "No, but you need to know how to use the program" remark is entirely nugatory with respect to MrJiveBoJingles' statement. It bears zero relevance. None. In fact, judging by the quality of the output of many novice EDM producers (or rather astonishing lack thereof), one may conclude that you don't even need to have any deep knowledge of said "program" to be able to score a release somewhere online, or two.
Stop being stupic, stupic. |

True enough, but learning how to use most sequencers on a basic level is actually very easy. I could teach someone how to make a very simple track in Reason or Ableton within a few hours.
It would probably take a long time before they produced something of high quality, but that wasn't the point I was making -- my point was that entry into EDM production is usually a lot easier than entry into non-EDM production, not that it's easier to make high quality stuff. |

I have some experience producing with Jeskola Buzz (it was an obscure shareware program that James Holden was using lol!), FL and Reason myself. Its been a few years since i last produced something and it was only recently that i got Cubase SX3. From a first glimpse it seems different from the FL/Reason programs. Is it not pattern-based lol? The PDF files are huge and a pain in the ass IMO. I think i'll order some easy-to-use book from the net.

Nope, sorry. Cubase is the only major sequencer I haven't used, actually. :p |

Do you have any experience with Cubase SX3? | Cubase is one of the hardest sequencers to learn on your own. FL and Ableton are much easier to learn that way.
Best bet is to get someone who knows the program to show you, so you learn those basic things at first and the rest will come of itself. |

I kind of doubt that. It's a lot easier to get into EDM production than it is to get into producing most other stuff. All you need is a net connection; then download a cracked copy of a sequencer and some VSTs, and off you go. Don't even need to learn to play an instrument... |
RnB and hip hop is pretty popular nowdays too.
You don't even need a sequencer to make rap. Just someone who thinks they can sing/rap+a beatboxer (or have one person be both. |
