Thinking about starting food delivery contracting service. Think about it. Have f'ing PF Changs delivered right to your door! Private contracting to whatever restaurants want my services. I will increase their sales volume by increasing their potential customer base from those willing to go out to eat, to those who want to stay home or are working in the office. I'm a private contractor already, tutoring. But the company I work for takes 66% of my earnings which is a in rip off. So I'm branching off on my own.

yeah, but you have no way of controlling food costs, which is where most of the profit lies.

you would be giving the restaurants slightly more business, but they aren't going to give you a sales break - so where are you making money? charging people too much for food and delivery?

plus people ordering from *any* restaurant they want doesnt reek of convenience... normal restaurants take longer than the normal delivery time just to cook the food. is someone really going to pay 25% more to wait 1.5 hrs for something that they could pick up? and even then, are you making money? nope.

Krypton you should name your company "Free Pizza". Then post fliers all over campus for "Free Pizza". :stongue:

Yeah krypt...your strategy will fail unless you get some cut from the restaurant. I stopped ordering Pizza for delivery when they added the extra delivery fees and imagine many people did the same. It's not worth an extra $4 to have it delivered when you can just drive 5 minutes to get it..and if I did pay the extra fee, I wouldn't tip the driver a damn thing..cuz I'd assume that is what the "fee" was for. Your time/gas is probably worth more than the $8-10/hr you'd make in fees. If the restaurant gives you a 10% cut however, it could be very profitable.

I know a guy who delivered pizzas a few years ago and he told me he averaged $10/hr in tips + minimum wage he was paid at the pizza place..so around $16/hr total. Not bad..but he had 3-4 deliveries an hour so gas costs ate up part of that.

Good inputs. It would really depend on the establishment, and how fast they produce their orders. I would be contracting to specific restaurants, so it really wouldn't be "any" one, but just the ones who contract my services.

What is too much for delivery?

The driver actually gets little of that delivery fee. When gas prices were high, they might of gotten a little fuel raise, but the fee mostly went to subsidize the higher food costs.

That $4 fee for that pizza seems steep. But I'm thinking about higher end restaurants. Like PF Changs or something. The higher food costs would make the delivery cost seem insignificant. Say a $4.99 delivery fee for a $39.99 order.

Well, you tip waitresses 15%..and they bust their ass going back and forth serving you for an hour. I personally don't think delivery guys deserve more than 10% for their one-way trip.
