If you are using your own vehicle then you better tell your insurance company that you are using the vehicle for business purposes....which will most likely sky rocket your rates. If you don't tell them and get into an accident while working then there may be grounds to deny your claim.

Thinking about starting food delivery contracting service. Think about it. Have f'ing PF Changs delivered right to your door! Private contracting to whatever restaurants want my services. I will increase their sales volume by increasing their potential customer base from those willing to go out to eat, to those who want to stay home or are working in the office. I'm a private contractor already, tutoring. But the company I work for takes 66% of my earnings which is a in rip off. So I'm branching off on my own.

Oh just like all those other places that do that. Cool.

Yeah, there are many restaurant delivery services in major cities. Colleges are excellent for this sort of thing, but also think hotels and large business districts during the day - these are the people whose companies are picking up the tab, so they don't really give a how much it costs so long as meals are under $50-100 just for reason's sake.

It may become a large problem getting in with restaurants though - as was said, there are many companies who offer this very same service - and charge an often repulsive fee - but their edge is in being with certain restaurant chains and negotiating for kickbacks or whatnot on a corporate level. I'll bet that many chains are already 'taken' in the sense that they have contracts with some services. Point being, it's going to be extremely competitive merely due to the fact that delivery services likely cannot anticipate the exclusivity of any given establishment, so they must cater to them all.

Business plans + TA seem to be a bad mix.

Everyone is jealous. :D

Krypton, PM me if you want me to run by you a rough idea of what I have, its like yours but more encompassing and decentralized. ;)

Yes we are jealous of his pizza delivery scheme and wish we had thought of it our selves

I don't think chain restaurants or ones that are well off will go for it. Why would they want to risk their reputations and customer relations to you? Let say customer orders from PF Chang, and your delivery guy is late and the meal is cold. They're going to blame the restaurant. Or if there is a mistake in the order who eats the cost and redelivers the meal. Sounds like a lot headache for very little profit even if you manage to get it off the ground.

I am looking at a brochure for one such service here in Denver (I have brochures for at least 4 of them at this moment, if that helps you realise how common this is) and they charge $4.99+18% service charge, but also explicitly mention that a tip is not necessary. A flat and included tip rate would help you regulate your profit, so it wouldn't really be necessary to incorporate such a random variable in your calculations, depending on how you do it.

We have a company in town that does this as well: Cafe Courier
Hey, they're located in missy eula too!

They charge a 10-25% markup on delivered food and it's rarely as timely, hot or delicious as it would've been if Id gotten off my lazy ass.

That said, the markup could help you cover costs. I think I saw you planning $5 for gas for the day? That seems quite unrealistic, regardless of the cost of fuel.

It could work, but you've got to have a the right market with expendable income. Keep us posted, I'd love to hear what you do, even if you don't push past the research/planning stages.

I have a few questions for you. I'v got a little business project and I need some raw data.

All of this is only for one day.

1. How many deliveries did you average?
2. How much were you paid and were you paid per delivery or hourly?
3. How many miles would you rack up on your car?
4. How much was the average order?
5. What was your average tip?
6. Which days were the busiest?
7. Did your employer charge a "delivery fee"? If so, how much?
This is one of the worst ways iv ever seen of collecting data.

They do this in Gainesville: http://www.gatorfood.com/

I've never ordered from it but plenty of people do.
"There is a $4.99 delivery charge for orders placed by phone and a $3.99 delivery charge for orders placed online."
