How is bigger government beneficial to anyone other than big government?

Republican administration in the states up until 3 months ago and a conservative administration in Canada.
I am sure you dont expect to blame the woes of the entire world on Obama and Mcguinty; and have people actually think that you are right.
Look into your own politics a find your answer.
Unfortunately reality and timing dont work in your favor on this one. |

You're joking, right? Bush may have been a Republican but he was all about big government. That's the "compassionate conservatives".
As for the "conservative administration in Canada", federal taxes have gone down. It's only the provincial and municipal costs (McGuinty, liberal, and Miller, champagne socialist) that keep going up.

Crack for themselves or for the poor? Because if it's the latter then it would be the most awesome conspiracy ever. The government is spending tax money on crack so they can feed it to the homeless and keep them unfit for work, so that they can subsequently tell us that the problem is getting worse and that we need to give even more money. |

what CRA and the gov't need to do is clean up the ridiculous corporate and self-employed loopholes that exist. If I see another client with 20 rental properties declaring net income under 20k, I'm going to snap, lol. |
You gotta remember, as long as there is government trying to take away someones dollars, there's going to be a plethora of people who actively pursue inherent loopholes to evade taxes. And as we know, legislation is always 10 steps behind, so its a 'dog chasing its own tail' scenario.
The only way to insure that these loopholes are alleviated is to cough up more personal information to bureaucrats. Thats when you gotta wonder about that whole 'big brother is watching' thing. |

For example, big companies like GM etc haven't paid much taxes in the last 20 years, and right now are asking for more of our money... Talk about hypocrisy. |
Not hypocrisy.
As a business, its in their interest to actively pursue revenues from whatever sources. |

nah not joking more choking on the suggestion that the recent decisions made by what jayx has called soclialist has almost holitstically been the fault of left of centre ruling parties when reality, fact and chronological order clearly shows that for no other reason Obama and Mcguinty have
inherited mismanagement, spending and all the fruits of a lawless capitalist free martket system.
Key word inherited, history will, like it did with Bush either show these two liberal, not socialist leaders as either failures or successes. History did not vindicate Harris or Bush; rather they were further smeared when more capable leaders succeeded where they could not.
Bush and big government, shadow governemnt, lawless governemnt - how about "tax and spend" republicans to be more ironic. Total spending of the most recent bush regime increased in the range of 33% to 56%. When right wing followers lean to the larger taxation of late they seem to find great peace in ignoring the current economic state that was created and left for liberal leaders to clean up. And as part of that process taxation must occur.
The size of the goverment is important however the size of the debt inherited, the plan to remove a country out of it and the wastefulness of its spending is of paramount concern.
Is it the mantra of conservatives to believe that inheriantly that they must coach and coherce others after they were forced out of office. Typical armchair conservatives to ride the pine when the opportunity was theirs and attempt to try to manipulate the system when they have utterly no power of control. |

Isn't that pretty much what I just said? I know that Bush was a big spender. That was my biggest gripe with him throughout his presidency.
But seriously, give me a break; every government has inherited the mess from every prior government, going back to Trudeau in Canada and Lyndon Johnson in the USA. The question is, do they try to clean it up, as Harris and Reagan did, or do they just keep shoveling it on?
I'm not making excuses for Bush. His economic policy was awful. But he was the exception as far as conservative governments go. What other Republican or Conservative government has spent that kind of money? |

What Obama inherited is by far worst than anything else in the history, FDR doesn't even come close with his sissy great depression!
But seriously what kind of idiot but Bush would spend like there is no tomorrow and then uses reconciliation in the senate to pass tax cuts???
Majority or virtually all of the Republicans never seem to be able to connect the dots and figure out you can't give tax cuts without cutting the spending first... idiots!
And what kind of ing moron would not learn a thing from 8 years of disaster under Bush and just repeat all his economic mistakes but perhaps ten times worst? His name is Barack Obama and all he is doing is sweeping the dirt under the rug. And these idiots called lefties think they can solve all of the problems by taxing the rich and spending more and moar regulations... Just a different kind of idiots! |

IMO, the best system would be one with higher consumption taxes and no income tax.

I was thinking about this all day! I'd love to see this, and combine it w/ a higher min wage. it would be interesting to say the least. |
