My U.S Army Dream is Over..

I was due to ship out to Fort Sill MO on March 25th for basic training until I was told on March 24th that it wasn't going to happen.

A couple of weeks ago I went to see My recruiter to fill out some last minute paperwork and He noticed the tattoos on My head. Knows how He didn't notice them before but He said it could be a problem. I'd already declared them when I went for My physical but somehow it got over looked and I was allowed to complete the process.

A few days later I get a call from My recruiter saying it's all good and I'm good to go so I said My good byes to everyone. It was hard because I had to call My Daughter to tell Her that Daddy wasn't gonna be around when She was here in the Summer. Anyway, the day before I'm due to leave I took Sheila out for dinner and I get a phone call saying don't bother to go to the processing station to ship out.

ING JESUS !! I've devoted five months of My life to this and all of a sudden it was over. I can't begin to tell You what a huge upheaval this news was. Not just to Me but to My whole family. I'm devastated.

I did this whole thing for financial reasons for My families security and now I'm back to square one with another little addition on the way in August. I was looking forward to putting soldier on Her birth certificate but now I'll have to put unemployed.

Oh Well!! It is what it is..

PS, Tattoo removal is classed as self mutilation so it wasn't an option.

Damn... That sucks bro. Yeah, I heard they're getting strict about tattoos now. If you have a tattoo, you can't join the service. That sucks.

That is definitely bull. Is there anything you can do at all, or make some type of appeal to their decision? It was their fault that they overlooked it in the first place so why not pretend to over look it again. This totally sucks and I am sorry that this didn't work out for you :(

There's nothing they can do. You're allowed to have tattoos on your hands or your neck but under no circumstances are you allowed tattoos on the head even though mine are covered up with hair. The only time they would have been visible would have been in basic.

Really sorry to hear about this Steve, Is there anyway you can sue them? i mean you should have been told abt the tattoo before putting 5 months of energy into it! Wish all the best for u mate.

wow, im sorry! that is horrible. Its a bit sad and scary that ANYTHING is so easily overlooked in something that is so important- makes you wonder who is in there that shouldnt and who is not who should be. :(

That really blows man, sorry to hear :(

thats ty dude, a friend of mine was supposed to ship off for the marines last week. now they're giving him about his tattoo and re-evaluating it even though theyve seen it and he didn't hide it or anything like that...

Sounds like a blessing to me.

WOW, now they owe you! Sorry about that dude!
like the last post, maybe it wasn't your time.

So, basically if you don't want to join the military or
they force you to join, all you gotta do is get a tattoo on your head?

Wow, that sucks. MEPS is being a pain in my ass about a kidney thing i had when i was a kid. I submitted all my medical forms and and the doctor is saying that it's something that needs constant medical attention when i havent seen a doctor or taken any medication for it in over 10 years. I'm resolve it it now with my recruiter, and we should clear it all up, but it's just taking forever. For a military that complains that there aren't enough soldiers, the sure try and find every way to exclude you from the military, it's retarded.

When I enlisted initially they couldn't get enough people to join. Now however the recruiters are meeting their goals because of the failing economy. The National Guard are over strength and Active duty aren't far behind.
